Tannis supervised my Master’s thesis in the early 70s. I served as her teaching assistant and research assistant during this time and worked on the TV study in its early stages. We kept in touch over the years, and in 1998 Tannis agreed to sit on my Interdisciplinary PhD committee. She was always ready to give generously of her time and energy. Tannis’ influence was key to the unfolding of my professional life. I doubt I would have completed my Master’s degree without her support and mentorship. Tannis’ integrity, passion for learning, and her feminist view of the world were a source of inspiration throughout our friendship.
