Starting February 1 I'll be in Laikipia, Kenya, walking 100 Miles for Elephants to to help stop the poaching of these beautiful, soulful creatures. This will be a 9 day adventure, walking through Laikipia in support of this critical cause. My journey was on National Geographic's 2013 list of Best Tours in Africa, and was also selected as one of their 50 Tours of a Lifetime.

At the moment, nearly 100 elephants a day are slaughtered in name of the ivory trade. That’s nearly 10% of the current elephant population in Africa. At this rate, during our lifetime, elephants will be extinct in 10 years.

Historically, ivory was used to carve trinkets, but the value has increased by over 500% in the last 3 years, and now ivory is hoarded as an investment.

Elephants and their families suffer dreadfully from this genocide. Many are killed in horrific ways, and are left to die long and painful deaths. Many baby elephants are left orphaned and will die. Elephants, like humans, mourn their dead. They form close, lifelong relationships with their family members, and when an elephant is poached and killed, the family and the whole herd suffers emotionally from the loss.

There is hope! Local communities are trying to protect the elephants. We can help them, but they need your support. And in September, the U.S. and China signed an agreement to take steps to help stem the ivory trade. This is significant, because the U.S. and China are two of the world's largest markets for ivory.

Please support this very worthwhile cause and help save the elephants - their future depends on you! It's easy - just click on this link:

These are the selfless organizations who are trying to stop the elephant trade and ensure a future for these majestic animals:

Thank you, thank you, thank you -  from the very bottom of my heart.

Many of you followed blog about my journey by bike through Africa in 2012, and I'm hoping I'll be able to tell my story again. Of course that will depend on internet availability. Here is the link:

(Elephant Earth has applied for non-profit status in Canada, but they don't expect to get charitable status for another year or two, so unfortunately tax receipts for donations of less than $100 cannot be issued. However, for donations of more than $100 from Canada, the U.S., and U.K., receipts can be issued. That's easy too - just contact me directly by email and I will provide particulars.)
