Not just one house but two! Thanks to last year's generous donations Lauren and Daniel were able to help build a house for Solome's family. This year we are upping the ante and hoping to raise money for Alphonsine and Franciose. They need our help! More ...

How We Got Started:

In the Spring of 2011, Lauren traveled to Rwanda as a nurse with a group from the University of Florida. The experience was life changing and she has since returned to Africa and Rwanda every year.

Working alongside her interpreter and friend, Felix, Lauren has provided various means of support to women apart of Rwanda Sustainable Families (a micro-loan organization doing great work- check out their FB page). She has held health education classes, assisted women in completing grant applications, completed home visits to micro-loan participants and treated children with mebenzole for worms.

Last year, with the help of her husband, Daniel, and the money raised from Inshuti of Rwanda they built a house for Solome and her family.

Meet Our Families:

In 2014, Inshuti of Rwanda built a home for Solome, Issac and their four daughters. For the past three years they had been living in a small corrugated metal structure after their original home was washed away in a landslide. The Rwandan government moved them to a safer location and although, they were given new land to live on, Solome and Issac did not have money for building materials.

Both Solome and Issac are HIV+ and are fortunate enough to take anti-retrovirals supplied to them by the government. However, they struggle to make a living. Solome is a seamstress and a recipient of a micro-loan from Rwanda Sustainable Families.

This year we invite you to meet Bangana Franciose. She is 43 and divorced because her husband was beating her. At the time she left her husband her young child was only 3 months old. Since that time she can only afford to rent a small room which leaks when it rains. We want to build her and her son a home of their own.

Then there is Akimanizanye Alphonsine. She is 52 years old and has 8 children. Alphonsine is a farmer and was able to buy seeds and supplies with a micro-loan from Rwanda Sustainable Families. But she too struggles and can only rent a small, old house. Please help us build a home for her and her children.

The Cost:

The cost of building a simple home in Rwanda = $2,500 !!!

Here's what the break down looks like:

$1,548= Supply Total

$166= Carpenter Total

$455= Labor (masons, mixers, roofer)

$396= Interpeter Fees

$2,565= TOTAL COST OF HOUSE

(for further breakdown of expenses vist our FB page)
