Breanne McDaniel hasn't added a story.
Hi. My name is Bre McDaniel and I'm a singer/songwriter + visual artist from BC. I'm almost finished the production of my first full length album called, "Howl".
I've struggled with the decision to reach out for financial support
as many independent artists do; but having you join me in bringing
this to the finish line would mean so much. The album is already
recorded, and is ready to be mixed and mastered. If you want to
pre-order, share this page, or contribute more, it is all so very
appreciated and humbling to be advocated for.
Background:
My last EP, “Light Pollution” (Produced by Jordan Klassen), took
me on my first 5 tours, first music festival, first radio play and
interviews, and got 4000+ people out to a mountain top to see a
meteor shower I wrote a song about. (Honestly I don’t know if I’ll
ever be more successful as an artist than that madness.)
It taught me a lot, connected me with beautiful
communities across Canada, and reaffirmed that pursuing my craft as a
musician is something I want to pour my life into. I believe a large
part of my role as an artist is to simply be a good listener, and then
share back what I've been hearing with sincerity, intention, and
openness to bigger things. It is a real honour and joy I don't take
lightly.

A bit about the album:
"Howl" is a mix of studio tracking and outdoor field
recordings in coastal BC, and explores the thought of how we need the
tonic of wildness. The word ‘howl’ evokes the idea of a completely
uninhibited natural sound that is both grounding and disturbing; a
call to right what is wrong within and without, and a voice that draws
one’s pack together. Some of these songs are very related to Vancouver
and I hope that is felt.
Musically the album is mainly lighter
and upbeat; a mix of folk-pop, dreamy indie rock and atmospheric
interludes, and has been produced entirely by female identifying
collaborators. It’s exciting to see the demand for more female
representation in music, and many recent projects are contributing to
this conversation such as Kinnie Starr’s documentary "Play Your
Gender" and albums such as “Semper Femina” by Laura Marling,
among others. I want to join this discussion from my own community,
and take deliberate steps that invite people to celebrate and be
curious about needed change.
More details on the album production thus far, which is recorded
(!) and currently in the mixing stage...
Producer + recording and mixing engineer:
Elisa Pangsaeng (Said
The Whale, Kinnie Starr, Shad, Hannah Georgas)
Other musicians involved:
Jen Foster, Kathryn Calder,
Jenny Banai, Laura Smith, Lisa Jacobs, Trish Klein, Catherine Hiltz,
Coco Culbertson. (one song coproduced by Coco Culbertson also)
Recording at:
Monarch Studios (Vancouver) and other
locations such as Lynn Canyon, Sechelt and wherever I found
weird/interesting sounds.
Upcoming costs:
Mastering - $900
Pressing - $1100
Digital + Physical Distribution (Tunecore, DMDS, snail
mail) - $150
Publicist Fees - $2000 (Hiring a publicist helps your
music to get press coverage and exposure from media outlets,
benefitting from their industry contacts and taking a lot of emailing
off my plate. I've been advised that this is an important part of the
budget that obviously a lot of independent artists don't have room
for, but it can be an important investment in the life of the release.)
Expenses I've already paid for include studio rental time,
hiring session players, rental equipment, mixing, producer +
engineer fees, and I'll be doing the album artwork and design
myself. Pending venue booking, the release date is the 22nd of September.
Thank you so much for considering being involved in this
project, and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
