Hi. My name is Bre McDaniel and I am a musician from
Vancouver, BC.
The above video is dedicated to anyone who sees something that
isn't totally visible yet, and all those who have given me something
that I now carry as an artist. I've been given tools to navigate,
vision for the type of artist I want to be, and courage that I
couldn't find on my own. Thank you.
I have been working hard to externalize what has been building
inside me for years during artschool and my different jobs as a
support worker. A major part of that is this upcoming EP that I am
raising funds to release independently.
I have spent a season
songwriting and digging deeper into the vision for where I want to go
with music in the next years, and now it's time to step out and share
what I've collected and have been charting. I feel like I've been
entrusted with a lot of different shaped gifts, pictures and stories,
and I am so excited to share them with you. This next step feels like
a big risky commitment and it has taken a long time for me to be ready
to pursue music professionally. I know it won't happen without
accepting a lot of help.
Great news:
I applied for a FACTOR Canadian recording grant in January with
minimal hopes of recieving one, but I did! I am very encouraged that
the government believes in me. I also did a fundraiser house
concert/art sale in March which went fantastically well and was
unforgettable. All in the same month I also got laid off, causing me
to reflect even more on my next steps. I have also been experimenting
with other guerilla fundraising schemes and working on various art
commissions to fund the recording, but all this still isn't enough to
cover the costs of tracking, mixing, mastering and printing.
About the Recording Project:
I will be much more involved with production than on my first
EP, and will be working with other professionals in the industry for
the first time.
I have booked time in June at The Space Studios
in Vancouver and will be working with Dan Klenner (Space Captains, Hey
Ocean!) as my sound engineer and Jordan Klassen (Jordan Klassen!) as
my producer. I'm esctatically certain that these are the right people
to work with on this thematic collection of songs. My release date
goal is for the end of August.
About the Songs:
This EP lyrically explores different ways of seeing, and
different kinds of light: starlight, precious gems and jewels, sparks,
embers and meteor showers. Sonically, there will be a mix of earthy
acoustic textures, smokey vocals and a celestial atmosphere. It's
going to be a sort of "celestial folk" mini album full of
stories, called Light Pollution.
