In 2014 I embarked on my first volunteer trip to Nepal, teaching in a school for underprivileged children & living in the schools boarding hostel with 50 children. The conditions at the school and hostel are very poor as the only funding they receive is the AU$1.30 per month school fee for each child. After living with these children for a month I vowed to help them to acheive better living conditions and help to improve the school which is struggling financially.

On Saturday 25th April an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the richter scale destroyed the homes of 90% of Samata students homes in Bhaktapur. These families who had very little to begin with now have nothing. They are currently living in tents and are waiting on emergency supplies of food and clean drinking water.

On August 5th I will fly to Nepal to volunteer my time to help these families to rebuild their homes and supply them with food, bedding & water filters.

The more money I raise, the more families I will be able to help.

My trip is completely self funded. I will be taking 2 months of unpaid leave from my job to volunteer within the Bhaktapur community and to help get the school back up and running. 100% of your donations will go to the children of Samata Bhaktapur and other needy children around the Kathmandu Valley.

I will also be visiting the Social Development Organisation Nepal Orphanage which houses 8 orphaned girls who are also in need of assistance after the destruction of the earthquake. A small percentage of the fund will be usedto help these girls also.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated in 2014. I was able to supply the Samata boarding hostel with new mattresses for all the children, new tables and chairs for the hostel kitchen/study area, new cooking equipment for the kitchen, warm clothes for the children & loads of stationary for the school. Please note that these items were not destroyed by the earthquake as the Hostel is still standing. It has suffered damage which we hope we can repair.
