We Believe Academic Foundation has begun!
My name is Rosetta Qadhi, and I am pleased and excited to announce the official start of the We Believe Academic Foundation, a non-profit charity geared towards helping girls and young women in Jamaica afford an education, as well as developing additinal skills and knowledge necessary in gaining personal independence.
Many of our young Jamaican girls wish to pursue further education but are held back by poverty and lack of oppurtunity leaving them with a feeling of hopelessness. In addition to poor living standards, too often this despair and lack of education also results in unplanned pregnancies, excessive dependency on, and, mistreatment from men, or worse yet abondonment and further impoverishment of young mothers and their children. Resulting desperation also leads to terrible loss of dignity that is prostitution. Such unfortunate situations result in repeating cycles, generation after generation of impoverished and uneducated youth who are disadvantaged from the start of their life.
The first step in stopping these vicious cycles is to provide opportunity, and education is opportunity. This provides hope, and hope when fostered, progressively becomes belief. Belief provides the emotional strength and stability necessary to continue moving forward in a positive direction without losing course, resulting in a continued evolution of positive change.
We all need to believe we can make a difference, including both organizers, contributors, and especially the youth we aim to help.
All funds raised will go to help provide college tuition, books and boarding.
Also, once per year there will be a basic self defence seminar which will help the girls protect themselves against violence, as well as a workshop to motivate and encourage the girls to keep striving towards their personal goals.
We are all gifted with a unique set of skills and abilities, we can make extra-ordinary things happen in the world around us. Help these girls believe again, so they can fulfill their destiny.
