My name is Jacqueline Rosario. Endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, I am the common sense conservative choice for School Board. I am seeking to be re-elected as School Board Member in Indian River County in order to continue the work I started when first elected in 2018. I love what I do as a School Board Member. I get the immense privilege of making a difference in the lives of all children in our county through supporting new initiatives, setting policy and procedure, or voting on recommendations that will impact children in a special way.
I am a woman of faith, a proud mom of a 13 year old son, a teacher, school administrator, and current school board member working hard to deliver results for all students in the School District of Indian River County. I began my teaching career in 1992 as a Teacher of English as a Second Language. Several years later, I became an Assistant Principal. After relocating to Vero Beach nearly 14 years ago, I served as the Academic Dean at a Bible College located here in Vero Beach in addition to securing similar educational positions.
With almost three decades as a lifelong educator, I have experience setting and creating policy, procedures, managing school personnel, supervising teachers, and overseeing curriculum and instruction including professional development for faculty and staff. I also have experience writing school improvement plans, setting district strategic goals for improving student achievement, and creating steps to reach these goals.
There is no other board member or candidate who champions school choice more than me. I have homeschooled my son for the past 8 years. I fully support a parent's right to choose the best educational environment for their child/ren. Ensuring this district has true school choice was one platforms I am proud to have advocated nearly four years ago (among others). Before my 2018 win, this school district did not offer a choice that was truly accessible for all students. Now, school choice, with transportation if needed, is a reality for all children in our county. Additionally, my support for charter and virtual schools never wavered.
As I expressed in my introduction, I am re-running for the office of school board to continue the work I've begun, to bring positive change, and make a difference in the lives of ALL children because that is what I have dedicated my life to do. School board members play a pivotal role in the success of a community. We make budgetary decisions, set the goals of the district, set policies that drive the overall work in our district. In addition, board members hire/supervise the school district superintendent and board attorney. Supporting the work of the superintendent is important, but so is holding him accountable for the decisions he makes that impact our school children.
Working on a team of hard working elected officials, faculty, staff, community members, parents and children in Indian River County, I know team work is community work. Accordingly, achieving goals shows that everyone worked hard to reach their best potential doing what is best by kids.
I want to push the envelope even more regarding civics, reading/math proficiency, as well as closing the achievement gaps with our English Language Learner students, our African American students and all other subgroups. I have been a firm proponent of STEAM related activities; that is, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Although we have made strides in this area, we need to do better. As a school district, we also need to do more in terms of offering more technical/vocational training in addition to increasing access to college and career county-wide programs.
I understand the significance of wading through the waters to affect change which will ultimately bring academic success for all children. These are the reasons why I am re-running as the most qualified candidate for School Board Member in District 2. I hope and pray to earn your vote on November 8, 2022.
