🏊🚴♂️🏃♂️ My Triathlon Story
Hi, my name is Alberto Ortiz Rosillo, but my friends know me as Betin.
In January 2025, I jumped into something new: triathlon. At 37, I wasn’t a lifelong athlete. I couldn’t swim 100 meters without stopping, my longest bike rides were casual ones, and most of my running was with my dogs, Frida and Diego.
Since swimming was the sport I had the least experience with, I figured I’d take my time. My plan was to train quietly for a year before even thinking about competing. That was the plan… but then I signed up for a short race. And another one. And another one. Before I knew it, I was toeing the line at my first sprint triathlon, and not long after, I was finishing my first standard distance.
Somewhere between shaky pool lengths and sprint finish lines, I fell in love with the sport. Along the way, I’ve had many mentors, although my most loyal local “coaches” are still my dogs, Frida and Diego. They’ve pulled me through runs, biked alongside me, and reminded me that training is meant to be joyful.
Now, less than a year after starting, that joy has taken me to an unbelievable milestone: I’ve earned a spot to represent Canada at the 2026 Triathlon World Championship in Pontevedra, Spain. Out of thousands of athletes, only 20 per age group qualify, and I am honoured to be one of them.
🌍 Why This Means So Much
Next year, just three days before turning 39, I’ll line up on the world stage wearing Canada’s colours. For me, this is more than just a race:
- It’s proof that it’s never too late to chase big goals.
- It’s a way of showing my community, here in Canada and back home in Mexico, that hard work opens doors you never thought possible.
- It’s a chance to inspire others to take on challenges, even if they feel “too old” or “too late” to start.
💡 Why I Need Your Support
Competing internationally is a dream, but it also comes with real costs. Your support will go directly towards:
- Race entry & team fees (Triathlon Canada, Championship registration)
- Flights & accommodation in Spain
- Bike transport & race gear
- Training and coaching to be at my best for Team Canada
The estimated budget is between $8,000 and $10,000 CAD. I am personally contributing as much as I can, but I cannot do it alone.
❤️ How You Can Help
Every donation, big or small, brings me closer to the start line in Pontevedra. Here’s how you can be part of this journey:
- Donate directly here on FundRazr
- Share my campaign with your friends and networks
- Send encouragement, trust me, I’ll need it on those long training days!
- Visit and share my NEW website: www.triwithbetin.ca
Together, we can make this happen. When I race in Spain, I’ll be carrying not just the Canadian flag, but also the support of everyone who believed in me.
Thank you for being part of this dream.
