Melissa Pack hasn't added a story.
Todd and I met 16 years ago and began our story. We met Aug 1, 2000 and was married on Dec 31, 2000. In May of 2002 we received some horrific news. I had ovarian cancer and had to have a complete hysterectomy. We were horrified and unable to even imagine our lives without having children running around our house. Several years later we checked into adoption and even foster care but the expense of adoption was not affordable and I was not able to think about letting a child go back into the situations they were in with foster care. So we told our hearts "no" to a family and just loved on our nephews while still missing a piece of us and feeling imcomplete.
Fast forwarding our story to Sunday Aug 14, 2016 we had a group of Ukrainian orphans to visit our church joining us for a picnic after the service. I had already spotted one little boy in the group and just instantly fell in love with his smile. During the picnic our friend brought this boy over to us, without knowing I was watching him, and he introced us to him. Without hesitation this child reached out and hugged me. Not a small nice to meet you hug BUT a huge hug that was a statement! My world at that point stopped and everything became silent as I fell in love instantly with this child. He hugged my husband and went on his way. He at that point did not know the impact of what that hug meant to the both of us. I call it love at first hug!
We joined the children later at a swimming pool and played with our buddy. He and I became great friends in the pool!
We knew that night this child was a perfect fit for us and belonged to our family! So the adoption process begins.....
Friday Aug 19, 2016 we make our way to Alabama where the Bridges of Faith camp is located that brings Ukrainian orphans to the US to experience Jesus's Love and the culture of our country. With the help of our church family and those who hosted him while he was visiting Smithville Todd and I began to get to know this child more. I learned how to pronouce his name properly just as it is spelled Mycola - My cola - and sat down to eat dinner with him.
I found out that he LOVES pickles dipped in ketchup, corndogs, corn, french fries and caprisuns and not to mention spaghetti!
I did NOT realize how much we could love this child with only knowing him in the short amount of time that we have known him. We could not take our eyes off of him the whole weekend!
We know that Mycola was placed in our lives for him to have a family and a chance at a good life. We both feel like we have a renewed spirit and love that we didn't realize was possible! His smile will melt your heart and his hugs will warm your soul!
We ask that any donation will help in bringing our child home to Tennessee. It will be a long process with lots of support and prayers from our friends and families and even those we do not know! You don't realize how much you have already impacted our lives!
Mycola will be leaving to go back to Ukraine on Sept 5, 2016 and we ask that you pray for his safe return. The process to get him home with us will be as short as 6 months or as long as over a year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts as we begin to start our family!.....Updates to come! We will be spending this weekend again with the orphans and Mycola to have some more bonding time. Prayers are appreciated for us on this journey.
