Collaborate. Inspire. Contribute.
About:
Staged is a new multidisciplinary performing arts event which will take place on Friday, October 12 at the Al Green Theatre in Toronto. The show will feature dance, live music, visual art, and film, with a focus of creating collaborations across the forms. There will also be a post -show reception with raffles, prizes, and more.
Founders/Directors, Spenser McRae and Mahesh Halkeri strive to contribute to the fight to end cancer by using their shared passion for the arts to fuel the vision for this event. They are currently paying everything out of their own pocket in order for Staged to run, and that is why they require the assistance of generous donors in order to ensure its success. Every contribution, no matter the size, assists greatly in managing the costs that go into event production including, but not limited to: venue rental, insurance and licenses, advertisement/marketing, administrative costs, rental equipment, and more.
If you are unable to attend Staged, or would just like to help
out with a contribution, this is a great way to show your support!
The more money which Staged receives to put towards production costs
allows the team to donate a larger sum of funds raised from the
event to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation
( hopefully reaching the goal of donating $10,000 !)
The arts can be a powerful and transformative tool which bring communities together, and it is the hope of Spenser and Mahesh that Staged will inspire people to come together to raise money for this great cause.
Message From the Directors:
When a loved one is diagnosed you feel helpless and want to do everything in your power to contribute in some way (or many). In our case, the need to contribute started because of Spenser’s mother, Susan. For years, she endured a long and hard struggle against breast and ovarian cancer, and on July 1st of last year we lost her.
The idea behind Staged has been a dream for many years, and after the loss of Susan it seemed more pertinent than ever to turn this dream into a reality. This event is for her. It’s for our family. It’s for every other person who has been affected by cancer- those who have survived, those who are being treated and fighting now, those who we have lost, and those who give their unwavering love and support during one of the most trying times one can undergo.
This disease is universal, relentless, and has no remorse for the destruction it causes. It has no plans of giving up and neither should we. It is up to us, as a community, to remain hopeful and diligent in the search for a cure, and if this event can cater to that mission, even in the smallest way, we will know that the cause has been worthwhile.
