Hello All,
For those who have lived in LA or any other major city, you know exactly what it is like to pass someone who is homeless on the street. For me, it's a hard thing to do daily. Everyday, the streets of Los Angeles are filled with homeless men,women and children they eat there, sleep there, and shower there (yep with rain water). Sometimes I hand out hellos and good mornings, sometimes I hand out bananas or just sit and listen. I wish I could do more. Ive done more and more throughout the summer together with friends and family but I really want to make a difference this winter. 

My plan:
I want to hand out winter Homeless Survival Kits throughout Novvember and December to all of the Homeless Men, Women and Children throughout Los Angeles. The kit will include: socks, lip balm, deodorant, wet wipes, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, soap, Vaseline/lotion, hand sanitizer, brush/comb, water bottle, feminine products, rain poncho, energy bar/trail mix along with heat pads, winter gear, and food/shelter gift certificates. I want to hand out about 100 kits or more.

Mental illnesses are serious medical illnesses. They cannot be overcome through "will power" and are not related to a person's "character" or intelligence. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that One in four adults-approximately 57.7 million Americans-experience a mental health disorder in a given year.Los Angeles city and county have the most chronically homeless people in the country, and nearly all of them sleep on the streets, according to figures released Thursday by the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department.L.A.'s chronically homeless population has grown 55%, to 12,536, since 2013, accounting for almost 15% of all people in that category, HUD reported. More than one-third of the nation's chronically homeless live in California, the agency added.

According to multiple studies examining the causes of homelessness, among mothers with children experiencing homelessness, more than 80% had previously experienced domestic violence.Between 22 and 57% of all homeless women report that domestic violence was the immediate cause of their homelessness. Approximately one homeless woman in four is homeless mainly because of her experiences with violence. Homeless women are far more likely to experience violence of all sorts than American women in general, by differentials ranging from two to four depending on the specific type of violence in question.

One of the major causes of homelessness for children in the U.S. includes experiences of trauma, especially domestic violence, by their mothers and/or by the children themselves; trauma frequently precedes and prolongs homelessness for children and families.
