Hello everyone!
My name is Meghan, and I’m campaigning for my dear friend Shelby, who was recently diagnosed with aggressive Stage 3 breast cancer. This news has hit her and everyone around her hard, but Shelby is ready for her fight, and she has an incredible support team with her along the way.
As part of her support team, I have created this campaign in hopes of easing some of her stress and financial burden that comes along with her treatment and loss of income. Not only will her cancer medication cost nearly $15,000, but Shelby has currently run out of EI and sick time, having just come off maternity leave.
Because of this, Shelby is attempting to work through her treatment as much as physically possible with the hope of reaching the 100+hrs she needs to qualify for another EI leave. No one wants to see her working while going through surgery and her chemo treatment, but at the moment she is without an income and won’t be able to receive a steady one for quite some time. Her wonderful husband, Jaybe, is working so hard to keep their family afloat, but he’s feeling this diagnosis just as hard, and those around him don’t want to see him get to the point of burning out.
The good news is that although her type cancer is considered aggressive, it typically responds very well to treatment. Her medical team is optimistic, and they have given Shelby the confidence she needs to go through this journey. At this time she is waiting on the results of her lymph node biopsy but we're hoping to hear back soon.
Shelby’s first round of chemo is set to commence on September 16th. Her care team has worked quickly to get her treatment started ASAP, which means she has little time to work enough to qualify for EI so she can focus on her health.

A little about Shelby...
Shelby is the warmest, kindest, and most selfless person you’ll ever meet. Even with everything she’s going through, she still makes time to check in on her friends to make sure they’re alright. She’s an amazing mother and wife, but also a wonderful sister and an involved auntie. She truly is a beautiful soul, and she is deeply loved.
Long before her cancer diagnosis, Shelby and Jaybe struggled with infertility, and for 8 years they tried to conceive a baby. They spent many of those years going through hormone therapies and eventually IVF before welcoming their son Gabriel in 2025. Motherhood has brought out the best in Shelby, and she and Jaybe are phenomenal parents. Although technically she’s their aunt, she’s more like a second mother to her young niece and nephew, who absolutely adore her. Living all together, their house is a warm, loving, and sometimes chaotic home where all three children have the privilege of growing up together.
Shelby comes from a big family with 3 siblings: 2 sisters and a brother, and between them, she has 7 nieces and nephews. While she lives with her sister Jacque and her two children, the rest of her family is spread out as far as the East Coast. Her oldest sister, Alyssia, lives in Beaverton with her husband Reece and their 5 children. Her mother, Penny, and her boyfriend Mike live in New Brunswick, as does her brother Travis. Jaybe’s family is spread out even further into the US and the Philippines. Shelby is very close with her family, and no matter how far away, she and Jaybe frequently travel to spend time with them.
