Whatever you're meant to do, do it now. The conditions are always impossible. —Doris Lessing
The intention of this project is to create a sustainable model community with free education and livelihood generation in regenerative, organic, and permanent agriculture, while maintaining a zero waste philosophy given geographical limitations.
Our first incubator is hosted in Haruhay, Region 10, Northern Mindanao, Philippines on a three hectare area within the Higaonon Ancestral Land. This site will be a permacultured food forest and learning hub for the people in the area.
The word for world is forest
The forest is the habitat of water and as such the habitat of life processes too, whose quality declines as the organic development of the forest is disturbed. Every economic death of a people is always preceded by the death of its forest . —Viktor Schauberger
Combining your support with the participitation of the Higaonon tribe, we will establish a food forest to be held in common and restore the rich biodiversity of the area.
"Higaonon is derived from the words higa meaning living, the word goan , which means mountains and the word onon meaning people. All together these words form the description of the tribe as "people of the living mountains." (Source)
We can help them restore their true birthright, as people of the living mountains and as weavers of peace. This is all our birthright too. But we've long lost our indigenous ways.
The Higaonons of this village are ready and willing to do this and have invited us to share with regenerating a healthy ecosystem in their area. This is their ancestral land. And yet, through a variety of circumstances, they live from meal to meal, in homes that are cobbled together from wood, plastic, cardboard, and tin; their area too remote for proper plumbing or electricity, or any other services many of us urban dwellers take for granted.
Together, we can end poverty and starvation. We will help anyone willing to learn in the face of extreme climate changes; to facilitate access to innovative regenerative education, as well as peer to peer, open source ecology to future-proof the building blocks needed by the next generation.
Where your money will go
"No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted" ~ Aesop
100% of the funds we raise will go towards the following:
- Acquire tree seedlings to reforest the area. Most of the area has been logged, both legally and illegally, making the area susceptible to drought, fire, and flash floods.
- Create at least one community garden (from prepping the ground to getting the seeds, and gardening equipment).
- Build a low-cost earthbag roundhouse as a hands-on earthbag home construction workshop, allowing the participants to learn by experience and realize they can have dry, comfortable, earthquake and flood resistant homes that can adapt to extreme heat and cold weather, as well as bullet proof (Lumads - Mindanao's indigenous peoples - are often either directly attacked or caught in the crossfire between military, paramilitary, private militias, and/or rebel groups).
- Host on-site, organic, regenerative, and permanent agriculture intensive classes.
- Install basic water catchment and storage systems.
- Build a timbre bridge bisecting the property from the road to transport produce from the incubator site to the market / food hub.
- Provide food and transportation for team and participants.
- Register a cooperative for the community's livelihood development.
What is Regenerative, Organic, and Permanent Agriculture?
Organic agriculture is a system that relies on ecosystem management rather than external agricultural inputs.
Regenerative agriculture is a sub-sector practice of organic farming designed to build soil health or to regenerate unhealthy soils.
Permaculture is a portmanteau of the words permanent and agriculture. It is essentially the process of becoming indigenous to an area, the epitome of the Taoist "do not doing" principle.
Land is life, lupa ay buhay, ang yutang kinabuhi.
Our Guiding Principles
Honor Nature's sacred economy. We teach for free. Nature doesn't charge us for what she provides. In other words, take what you need, not what you greed. Abundance is a mindset, a particular perspective.
Pay it forward. Each regenerative community is mandated specifically to seed new communities.
Respect indigenous permaculture principles. Combine organic and premaculture principles with traditional indigenous knowledge.
The Team
HONEY MAE (Design School for Girls/The Harmony Projects - Canada)
Most people leave their jobs to pursue their passions. I left my dream job in publishing for a less glamorous task of building sustainable communities. Why? Because it is the only way we can and have survived throughout history. At The Harmony Projects where I apprentice for intentional community development, our mission is "to build systems and structures for the potentiation of synergistic and symbiotic interspecies partnerships; where many independent efforts resonate to form a fractal system of sympathetic actions designed to enhance the life force of the planet and all biological systems." All the answers we need are already all around us. We do not have to reinvent the wheel. But we do need to listen to our non-human companions on this spaceship we call Earth. It is time we break down the walls that separate us from nature. It is time to regenerate our relationship to our world anew. Follow my story on: http://instagram.com/honeymae.
PATRICK TAYLOR (Hybrid Agricultural Empowerment - Philippines)
My mission is to spread the word of organic agriculture to any who wants it and to document my journey into the culture of the Philippines that has resulted. I am an American who chose to come and live in the Philippines. After moving to Mindanao and seeing the ravages of poverty and starvation here, I decided to do something about it. I was trained in organic agriculture and certified to teach here in the Philippines. I go to the people that need this kind of help the most and train and work their land with them. We will build a multipurpose building made of earthbags and other natural materials from the property. This will serve as a demo for what is possible for climate-change resistant homes as well as a learning centre for the village and incubator participants. Plus a personal thank you letter and public thanks on our social media channels.

We will build a timbre access bridge across the river to the property, and will plant 4 trees and fig vines, two on each side of the bridge to form a living bridge sometime in the future. Plus a personal thank you letter and public thanks on our social media channels.
