The What and the why.

The project is essentially a community project aiming to rekindle traditional metal work craft whilst enabling and empowering the locals with workshops that will lead to them gaining work and new found confidence in their capabilities as independent and intelligent people. Using craft to create work for themselves and each other and forming close bond within communities in the area.

Ever since finding Gal Gael, a place that aims to rekindle traditional craft and working values in an area that once thrived on these practices I have went on to take a keen interest in Blacksmithing finding that not only has this craft been a constant source of local history but also of global significant being the foundation of many of our modern industries, in short, it has enabled us to live much more comfortable lives.

I aim to see that this traditional craft and its history doesn't get pushed by the way side and that the skills (which are by the way, absolutely engrossingly fascinating to undertake) be thought to local people who lack skills, lack confidence and are unable to find work.

The money will be used to pay for materials used in the practice of the trade of blacksmithing, the time of guest tutors from forges around Scotland, helping to support them too and Blacksmithing on a larger scale than this single project.

It will be used to help support the individual projects of those that get involved with the project as well as the start to a collective project; building new wrought iron gates for the Galgael project of which helps thousands of people out every year through their work.

Benefits-

It goes without saying that those that take part in learning a traditional craft such as this will benefit, but how?

They will gain continence by learning new skills.

They will be able to use these skills in many ways; metal work is one of the most transferable skills. Being used across the board in construction, artistic areas and conservation among many others.

It will bring publicity to the area and the charity in which we would share a building and greatest of all it will bring a sense of purpose to peoples lives.
