Stephanie Reindel hasn't added a story.
On Wednesday, May 15th at 5:30 pm, Eleanor “Nora” Grace Reindel was born to elated parents, Nathan and Amanda Reindel. Friends and family stopped by to meet Nora and congratulate Nathan and Amanda as first-time parents. Not too long after Nora arrived, she began to have difficulty breathing. The birthing center where she was born quickly transported her to St. Joe’s hospital for x-rays. The x-rays revealed some abnormalities in her chest, so they transported Nora by ambulance to Denver Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.
On Friday, May 17th, Nora underwent surgery to determine the extent of the abnormalities and correct any problems. Doctors informed Nathan and Amanda that Nora would likely need to have one or two lobes of one of her lungs removed. However, once in surgery, surgeons discovered that Nora had an extra piece of lung tissue outside of her lungs. This extra piece of tissue could pull air in, but could not expel it, causing it to inflate, and put pressure on her lungs and heart. As soon as the mass of extra tissue was removed, Nora stabilized significantly. The surgeons were able to leave Nora with all three lobes of the affected lung!
Nora is currently recovering from a large incision on her chest and an open wound on her lung. She currently has a chest tube, feeding tube, and is on oxygen. The chest tube is quite uncomfortable for her and they are hoping to be able to remove that soon. They are slowly weaning her off of the oxygen and managing her pain with morphine and Tylenol. Nathan and Amanda are hoping Nora can go home sometime later this week.
While Nathan and Amanda are incredibly thankful for the care they have received and the miraculous results of the surgery, they are now facing many unexpected medical bills. Eight days in the NICU, surgery, an expensive ambulance ride, and unplanned additional time off of work add up extremely fast!
If you know Nathan and Amanda, you know that they have hearts of gold, and are willing to do anything to help those they love. As their close friends and family, let’s join together and help them have one less thing to worry about as they prepare to bring their new daughter home. Thank you for caring for and praying with Nathan and Amanda in their time of need – they are beyond grateful!
We are hoping to raise $25,853 which includes Nora's medical expenses, a longer maternity leave for Amanda to attend to Nora's medical needs, and a few extra weeks of paternity leave for Nathan to work part-time during Nora's recovery process. Any amount of financial support during this time is much appreciated! Any amount raised above and beyond what is needed will be donated to Denver Children's Hospital.
This campaign was created by Stephanie Reindel, Nathan and Amanda's sister-in-law.
