One of my main goals when designing art installations is to provide participants with a place to lie down, relax and recharge in the immersive and connective atmosphere created by the lights and music. And I specifically choose classical music (mostly) to provide burners with an auditory respite from the deluge of sound on playa.

With 38,000 LEDs, a central structure, the wing design (which requires extensive welding to make her look like the beautiful insect that she is) and a quartet of 3’ tall flower pots (hiding the speakers) with soaring flowers growing out of the pots, Mariposa is the largest and most complex piece my team has ever undertaken.

While we were fortunate to receive an honorarium award for Mariposa, given the high cost of aluminum, LED lights and all of the component parts, I find myself needing additional help in order to bring this beauty to life. This fundraiser will only cover the costs of the LED lights, not any of the additional costs.

Donations of $20 and up will be rewarded with a Mariposa 2023 sticker. Donors at the $75 level will receive a beautiful Mariposa 2023 pendant.
