Angelina Salgado hasn't added a story.
Through my art I am bringing awareness to pregnancy and infant loss, ensuring that Aurora Annette's memory is never forgotten, and honoring my trauma and my grief through my following my lifelong dreams of being an artist.
I find so much healing from showing my artwork and sharing my story with people. I know that I didn't go through everything I went through for nothing. By pursuing a professional art career, I am creating the best life I possibly can without both of my twin daughters with me. If I can't be a twin mom, then I want to be the artist mom who memorializes her deceased child in her artwork.
I am well aware of how difficult it is to be an artist and make money from my art. (I know this because I had spent most of my life denying that being an artist was even a possibility for my future.) You know what's even more difficult? Struggling with my fertility health for over 3 years, then giving birth to identical twins, and then Aurora dying. If I can live through that, I can definitely make my own dreams come true.
Art exhibitions and art fairs, and basically, most art opportunities for showing and selling your art, require an application fee just to be considered. If there's no fee to apply, then the fees to exhibit your art are upwards of $100. (The bigger art fairs that get A LOT of exposure are thousands of dollars. I'm not QUITE there yet, haha.) And there is zero guarantee that you will make any sales or just break even. So, I've decided to crowdfund my two art shows (because, quite frankly, I only work one day a week because I stay home with Aurora's surviving twin sister) and, in order to be a professional artist, I need to get myself out there telling my story, sharing my art, and creating a sustainable income, while doing what I doing what I love and finding healing in my grief and loss.
The shows that I have lined up for March are...
• Haus of Art, Long Island City, Queens on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26. Exhibitor fee is $200 for the two days.
• The Barber Show by Start Shows at Astor Place Barber, Manhattan from March 31-April 28. Exhibitor fee is $650 for wall space.
(3/17/23 Update: the wall space I wanted was sold out, but I feel a strong push from the universe to be in this show, regardless if I’m able to crowdfund the full amount or not.)
Total exhibitor fees are $825
Because March is my birthday month (my actual birthday is March 14!) and I'm finally following my dreams after living through the worst experience of my life, I'm feeling (...sheepishly) confident in asking for any support that you can provide to help offset the exhibitor fees for the two shows at which I'll be sharing my artwork.
I'm grateful and appreciative of you even considering to help out this emerging artist. It is only a matter of time until you are seeing my Aurora paintings EVERYWHERE.
