Incarcerated artist/activist Eric Lee Tedana is wrongfully convicted in Texas and is fighting for their freedom. They have been struggling for 21 years and now have a parole hearing in October. They are seeking $9000 in order to hire a lawyer to get them the rest of the way home. Any extra funds will be used for their reentry to help ensure a smooth, successful transition back into the "free world.”
Lee is a dear friend of mine and talented artist/organizer. They are heavily involved with A.B.O. Comix, a collective of queer/trans incarcerated artists, and the Freedom Through Art Collective. Their work deals with the realities of being queer, gender fluid and neurodivergent in prison. These demographics all experience heightened repression and violence. For years they have brought awareness to this reality and have worked tirelessly to educate others, both inside and outside prison, on this fact. They understand, however, that the interlinked violences they face are the result of the overarching system that keeps them confined, namely the prison industrial complex. They are a student of abolition and teach us with their art to build a future free from the horrors of the PIC. This work is a lifelong commitment for them and they are ready to continue fighting upon release.
We appreciate any and all funds. We are so eager to see Lee build the life that they deserve on the outside and every dollar helps. Freeing our incarcerated friends and family is a crucial step towards ensuring a future without the endless violence that is the prison industrial complex.
