Hi there!
We’re over the moon to announce that Hunter and Linden – a
father/son duo – will be joining the collective and moving in with us
at our living, art, and organizing space Lupinewood! We’re
coming up a little short however on what we need to prepare the
rooms for their arrival, and we could use your help.
Lupinewood is a real fixer-upper: in Hunter and Linden’s future rooms there's a shortage of uncracked windows, little insulation in the walls, damaged drywall, and other upgrades to be made. Affording the drywall will allow them to move in, and anything else we’re able to afford will mean a better place for them to start their new life!
The two of them are wonderful, and in addition to helping the launch of their new collective lives feel as good as possible, anything you’re able to give will also help towards the ongoing work of transforming the historic estate of a 19th-century coal baron into the queer- and trans-led community institution of our dreams.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and you can find more
information below. Now feels like an especially important time for
trans people to be coming together and building with each other
—thank you for helping to support us doing that. ♡
Gayly,
The collective at Lupinewood
From Hunter & Linden:
For those who don't know us, I'm a trans therapist who's been
working with the queer community for nearly twenty years now. I grew
up on a farm in Northfield about ten miles from Lupinewood, and it's
meaningful for me being able to raise my child in a place where he'll
also be able to run around barefoot in the summer and harvest
vegetables from the garden out back.
Watching Linden form his own relationships with the other folks in the collective has been a joy, and I'm so excited to be building family with people he already loves, especially as he heads into the sure-to-be-challenging realm of adolescence.
Moving into Lupinewood will create more
support and stability for me and my family in this particular era of
uncertainty and will allow me to do the work I feel passionate about
alongside people who understand and care for us. Thank you for the help!
In gratitude,
Hunter and Linden

About Lupinewood
Lupinewood is four acres of meadow and forest that overlook the
Connecticut river valley and surround a stone mansion and its
outbuildings, once occupied by a convent of nuns and originally built
by a coal baron family over two hundred years ago.
In 2016, with the house on the verge of foreclosure and
collapse, our group of artists and organizers moved in with the
intention of building a long-standing community resource together.
Since then, we've been been managing the land and buildings
collectively while living on-site, slowly repairing rot and
reconfiguring spaces for community use while running programs and
learning how to live and work together.
In 2023 we launched Lupinewood Institute to help facilitate the
use of Lupinewood’s land and buildings by a broader community of
people, and in 2024 the Institute’s first community projects started
offering public programming.
