Sri Lanka needs help - right now!
This project contains two parts - an urgently needed
women's shelter and
immediate help to the poor
and the elderly - both in the region of Southern Sri Lanka:
1. Thethankyoufoundation, a Danish/SriLankan
non-profit community initiative, is planning to open a much needed
women's shelter in the South of Sri
Lanka. The shelter will accommodate up to 15 women and their children
for up to six months, providing them with a safe space, food,
schooling/activities for the children, and counseling, while
empowering them to reintegrate into society stronger and with a plan
for the future as well as a small amount to start over on their own
terms.
With the onset of Covid19 and the lockdown in Sri
Lanka, domestic violence is on the rise and women and children living
in abusive or violent families are now in an even more urgent need of

We wish to speed up the fundraising in these difficult times, hoping
to be able to launch the shelter as soon as possible. First step is
€6,000 which will enable us to rent a house and hire staff (guards,
matron, teachers, psychological counseling) and to be sure to be able
to run the facility for at least 9-12 months - the time to be able to
fund its future existence.
2. The second part of this fundraising appeal is for
immediate help to the poor and the elderly of
the Southern Region. Due to the lockdown, many families have no
resources left by now. The care homes for the elderly are equally
challenged. The donations of this part of the fundraising will go to
necessities such as rice, dhal, basic vegetables, flour, tea and
sugar. 20 euros will feed a family of 5 for one week to two weeks or a
whole care home housing up to 100 elderly people. The goal is to feed
300 families and 5-10 care homes.
