Firebird returns to the stage with Our Town, a fresh look at the beloved American classic by Thornton Wilder. 80 years after Wilder’s brilliantly bittersweet portrait of small-town life first opened on Broadway, the people of Grover’s Corners are back on the small stage, and they’re almost ready to get started... in just a minute... any day now...
This performance-centric take on Our Town thrusts the Stage Manager narrator into the (possibly busted) spotlight. Leaning into Wilder’s famous use of theatrical convention and absent fourth wall, this visit to Grover’s Corners is visually styled after a tech rehearsal, where time is precious, somehow both sluggishly dragging and swiftly running out. The play is called Our Town. It was written by Thornton Wilder and produced by us.
Firebird Youth Theater, an entirely teen-run theater company, made its debut in 2013, and have gone on to produce five yearly Off-Broadway productions, funded by people like you! Our last three productions, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland , Treasure Island, and Romeo + Juliet, all received multiple National Youth Arts awards, and our work has been covered by TDF Stages Magazine, Huffington Post, and Growing Without Schooling.
FYT is a not-for-profit organization, run on fundraising programs and generous donations from people like you! With an off-Broadway theater venue and rehearsal space rental, alongside set construction and transportation, costumes, props, publicity, outreach, and tech support, Firebird needs you to help us take flight.
