Mackenzie Shell hasn't added a story.
My name is Mackenzie Shell. I am a senior at Port Huron Northern High School with a 3.84 GPA. I started pole vaulting my freshman year at Port Huron Northern after competing in gymnastics for 10 years. I have listed my pole vaulting accomplishments below:
Freshman Year
- Outdoor personal record of 9’6”
Sophomore Year
- Outdoor PR of 11’3”, placing 3rd at the State Meet (named an All-State Athlete)
Junior Year
- Indoor States vault of 12’7” (Indoor State Champion & 2014 Outstanding Female Field Performer)
- Indoor Nationals (New York City) vault of 12’8.75” (6th place, named All-American)
- Indoor State Record of 12’10.5” (ranked 10th in the nation)
- Outdoor State meet 12’7” (named Outdoor State Champion)
- May 2014 broke Michigan’s outdoor state record, 13’2”
- June 2014 again broke Michigan’s outdoor state record, 13’6” (4th in the nation)
- Outdoor Nationals (Greensboro, North Carolina), 12’11.5” (placed 4th)
Senior Year
- Indoor State Record of 13'6"
Throughout the 2014 indoor season, I set a Personal Record at 8 out of 10 meets. I attended the Junior Nationals in Eugene, Oregon and competed against the top women in the nation age 19 and under (college included) where I placed 6th with a jump of 12’11.75”. I ultimately ended my Junior year outdoor season with a personal best jump of 13’6.25” ranking 6th in the nation.
This year my goals are to become the national high school champion and break the national record at 14’7.25”. I hope to make the junior world team to compete against the top vaulters (age 19 and under) from many different countries.
To become more competitive, it is necessary to travel throughout the United States pole vaulting at the collegiate level while I am currently in high school. It is imperative that I travel due to the fact that the next best jumper in Michigan is a foot and a half below me. Within the next year I am looking forward to competing at:
- Akron Pole Vault Convention in Akron, Ohio
- Reno Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nevada
- Millrose Games in New York City, New York
- Indoor Nationals in New York City, New York
- Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina
- Junior Nationals in Eugene, Oregon
- Pan Am Games, Toronto, Ontario
When competing, I represent my family, my school and my community. A renewed interest in this sport has occurred in our community because of my success. My coach has begun pole vaulting camps and has had overwhelming participation, again, because of my success. I was proud to help run some of these camps.
I would like to continue to represent our community and strive for further success. However, participating in these out of state meets is costly. Expenditures include:
- Gas to and from meets (meets within 10 hours of driving)
- Hotel accommodations
- Meals
- Airfare
- Car rental
- Shipment of poles
Your help in deferring these costs would be greatly appreciated. Any financial assistance that you could provide would help me reach my goal. Thank you so very much for your consideration.
For those who would rather donate by check, please make check payable to Mackenzie Shell and send to 3773 Spartan Drive, Fort Gratiot, MI 48059.
