Linda Smith hasn't added a story.
Bo is an 11 year old diabetic cat who was just diagnosed with glaucoma on September 25th. He had been crying for well over a month and the pupil in his eye was fully dilated. The vet said the reason his eye looks like that is because the lens slipped in between the iris and the cornea. If he has any vision left in that eye It is severely diminished. He also said that his eye is painful. He was prescribed eye drops which he gets 3 times a day. The pressure in his eye went down some but it is still high. He has an appointment for a pressure check on October 16. If the pressure stays up he will need to have his eye removed.
Someone asked why I need to rent a car. This is why. My car has a rotted frame, exhaust leak, bad brakes, a bad strut, needs an alignment, and the transmission is missing 2nd and 4th gear. I have been told by several people that my car is not safe to drive.
I am disabled and I only get $742 a month. That doesn't even cover my basic living expenses. I do without a lot of things that most people take for granted. Anyway, the local vet that i used to take him to wanted payment in full on the day of service or they wouldn't see him. I called all of the other vets in my area and they are all like that. It sickens me that they all care more about their bank accounts than they do animals.
When I spoke to the vet that he saw in April he wanted to see him immediately. I told him about the money situation and asked if I could write a post dated check. He said not to worry about that, that we could discuss it when I got there. The only problem was that he is over 80 miles away and I couldn't arrange transportation that fast. I was able to take him 3 days later thanks to the generous donations made by all of you.
Bo's story:
9 years ago I took food to the animal shelter. I stopped to visit the cats on my way out. He came right up to me and wanted me to pet him. When I went home I couldn't stop thinking about him. He was the biggest cat there and I figured nobody would want him because they always want cute little kittens. I went back the next day and adopted him. I like to say that he adopted me though because he came up to me.
For 5 years he was a normal, healthy cat. Then in 2010 I noticed he wasn't acting right. He was very lethargic and there was a thick layer of mud in the bottom of the litterbox. I took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with diabetes. He's been on insulin shots twice a day ever since then. The insulin he is on is Lantus. It is over $200 for a vial.
In April of this year he stopped drinking and eating and was once again very lethargic. I knew if I didn't get him to the vet he was going to die but I also didn't have the money to take him. Luckily a friend told me about a charity that helps with vet bills. Bo's blood sugar was dangerously low and he was dehydrated. He was in the hospital for 2 days. The charity covered the whole bill. I made several attempts to contact them but they wouldn't reply. Maybe they only help once. I don't know. That is why I need everyone's help.
