Miranda Robin hasn't added a story.
On 8/29 a fellow dog lover had sent a photo out asking if anyone could help get a very shy Red Heeler who was at the lake. We were SHOCKED she was still alive. The photo showed that she had lost quite a bit of weight and was declining in health. We had to act quickly.
I went out to the boat launch that evening. I spoke with a fisherman who had seen her and had been feeding her when he could. He too said she was looking pretty awful. I wandered around the area hoping to spot her. I was unsuccessful. I was told there was a live trap set in the area in hopes of catch her. It hadnt been checked in a few days and I was going to shut it down so she wouldnt be caught in an unchecked trap. Well I figured since we would be out there every day I would bait the trap and HOPE she went in. I tossed 3 hot dogs in and called it a night.
On the morning of 8/30 Kelly the gal who had sent the photo out called and said she was in the trap! It was a MIRACLE. I immediately jumped in the truck and was on my way!
When I first saw her she was a little nervous but doing okay. The wound on her neck was oozing and smelled awful. She was very underweight but not as bad as one would think for being on her own for at least 2 months. The rangers said the wound was likely a Mountain Lion attack. This girl is a survivor!
At 4:30 this afternoon she made it to the vets office. They clipped the hair from around her neck to show how awful her wounds were. She had been bitten at the C2 Vertebra. This is a bite to KILL not maim or disable. The vet said "whatever bit her wanted to shake her and break her neck. It wanted to kill her." My heart sunk. This poor pup had SO much will to live.
The poor girls neck is severely infected. She is anemic from the hundreds if not thousands of fleas she had been feeding. She only weighs 26lbs when she should weigh about 40lbs.
We have started this fundraiser to cover todays vet bill and future vet bills for this girl. If you can donate please do so. If not please share. This girl is a survivor and a fighter. It is our duty to get her back to 100%
