My friends 25 year old brother, Anas, fled Syria to Egypt with nothing but the clothes on his back. He quickly found work and was hoping to make a new life for himself. Yesterday he received notice that he has 40 days to leave Egypt. Where does he go? If he returns to Syria, his chances of death or detainment by the forces in power are too high.
We have found him a safe haven in Turkey. But in order for him to succeed, he must learn the language. His needs are a ticket from Egypt to Turkey, tuition for language school and room and board for six months to a year. This will give him the time he needs to assimilate to this new culture and language. We think we can pull this off for $3000-$4000.
Anas is alone, his sister is devastated and heart broken that her family is split up into pieces. They are all struggling to survive.
The good news is that Anas is motivated, hardworking and willing to take any risk to make a better life for himself. I do not know Anas personally but I know his sister, and if he is just 10% as kind as her than I promise you he is deserving. She has lost every material possession, has no idea of her families long term safety but has pushed though and made America her home. She always has a smile and kindness to share. Thankfully she has been able to learn English in a short amount of time with the help of the special people at the Lafayette Adult Resource Academy. After my friend explained was what happening, I was the one who pushed her to ask for help. I am the one who suggested this forum. She resisted. I explained to her a community can accomplish so much if given the chance. So I am personally asking for your help for this young man, who is way to young to have these experiences. $5, $10, $20, anything you can spare. I often times wish I could help everyone, as there is so much suffering around us regardless of where we live, but I know that is unrealistic. However we can help this one young man if we all pitch in and forgo just one meal out this weekend. Thank you and my friend thanks you, more than you can imagine.
