I am a lawyer in Kyiv, Ukraine.

On 24 February 2022, Ukraine was attacked by the Russian military forces. The war is now ongoing for more than 100 days.

Working under my main law specialization (corporate  and real estate law) is impossible in Ukraine in its current situation. Businesses in their majority have suspended operation or left the country; housing, municipal and infrastructure real estate is being actively destroyed by air and artillery strikes; businesses which remain have more urgent expenses than external corporate lawyers.

From my hobbies, I have engineering and repair skills. After the war began, I have helped setting up the utilities in the bomb shelter to which I moved with my family. I have set up internet connection, helped with locating communication, power and water supply lines, locating, cleaning, and repairing sewage, setting up and getting a 50 kW 40 year-old diesel generator to run.

Being unable to find new tasks as a corporate lawyer, and having gained some experience in field survey I will be joining one of my former clients – a survey company – as surveying contractor.

We will be doing land survey for the reconstruction of destroyed housing, municipal and infrastructure buildings in Kyiv and Kyiv region. As the air and artillery strikes destroyed or damaged municipal infrastructure, utilities’ lines were repaired or rerouted without proper documentation. Damaged and rerouted lines must be properly detected and documented, while avoiding debris of air bombs and artillery missiles. Therefore, I need a good cable locator avoidance tool for this work.

The cost of the kit is 81500 UAH, or around 2315 EUR. While there are some slightly less pricey options abroad, it is currently very difficult to ship non-humanitarian or non-military gear to Ukraine.

I am setting the goal to 2500 EUR, to cover eventual bank and currency conversion fees for paying for the product in Ukraine. Anything over the effectively paid price or my fundraising goal will be used for additional survey gear and survey-related services.
