Zuweiratu Osman; an 18 years old lady graduated from High School last year with excellent grades, but unfortunately, she couldn't seek higher education due to financial constraints. She attended the Tamale Senior High School. She dreams of becoming a professional Nurse in the future, and plans to study Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She is from a low-income family and she provides her basic needs with the tokens she gets as a sales girl for a shop. She lives in Tamale, the capital city of the northern region of Ghana with her family. Her family can’t afford her college expenses, and thus all hopes of seeking higher education are lost. Like Zuweiratu, many brilliant young women had lost all hopes to seeking higher education.
Most young women and girls from the Northern region drop out of school due to the inability to pay for educational expenses and others drop out of school due to peer influences, and teenage pregnancies then finally get married. Some of them travel to other regions of Ghana to involve in hard labor in order to raise money to fund their education. Most of these girls are even the bread winners of their families. Girl child education is one topic which must be always addressed. The issue of Female Education has been ignored by many societies because of their ignorance of the importance of Education to young girls and women.
Gender equality, quality and the effects of socio-economic and socio-cultural differences in the provision of learning opportunities are some of the major concerns in education development in many developing countries. One particular concern is unequal or the disadvantaged position of women as compared to men and by extension girls as compared to boys in education participation in terms of enrollment and school attendance.
This Campaign is to raise funds to cover Zuweiratu’s College Admission fees, tuition fees, learning resources, accommodation and welfare costs for the period of pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She wishes to study with the Health faculty of the University for Development studies in Tamale, Ghana. She wants to become a Professional Nurse in future so that she can offer some affordable health services to people in her community, as the Northern region of Ghana is one of the most deprived regions in Ghana and most people can’t afford medical care.
