Tammy Tupper Dimmig hasn't added a story.
Bridget Aitchison is one of the best people I know. As a manager of Stonybrook Apartments, she has looked after her staff and residents for more than 20 years. She is kind hearted and willing to do anything for others. She takes care of her employees like her own family. She has a great personality and a good heart and goes out of her way to do for others.
Last year, Bridget started having some health issues. Her hands and legs were swelling terribly, she was always tired and just didn’t feel good. The doctors thought it was her thyroid, and after several months of varying medications, she seemed to improve somewhat, but never fully got back to 100%. In February of this year, Bridget started having the same symptoms again, swelling throughout her body, pain in her legs, and general discomfort. In April, she was finally diagnosed with a kidney disorder, causing her to retain too much protein in her kidneys. Bridget was hospitalized for several days for treatment. For 2 months after, Bridget went through numerous exams, blood tests, varying prescriptions – all in an effort to get her disorder under control, but nothing was working. On June 8th, Bridget went back to the hospital due to swelling in her legs – and her left leg had turned bright red. She was immediately rushed into emergency surgery, due to a flesh eating bacteria. The doctors said the it was a simple strep based bacteria that most people don’t have a reaction to – but Bridget’s immune system was comprised due to the medications she was on. Bridget was hospitalized for ten days, undergoing several surgeries and other procedures to keep the bacteria from spreading. The doctors had put incisions on either side of her leg, about 9 inches long, and two more on her foot, and she was fitted with a vacuum pack and tubes that she had to wear all the time to continue to drain all the bacteria from her leg. She was finally released to go home on June 17th, but still had to continue to vacuum and was not allowed to walk or put any weight on the leg at all.
Just when she thought she was on the road to recovery, on Monday, July 7th – Bridget had a heart attack and was rushed back to the hospital. She was in intensive care for 2 days and then released again after almost a week.
Bridget is home now, and has come back to work after being out of work for 2 months. She still continues to receive treatments on her leg and it will be several months before it is fully healed. She is still going to doctor’s appointments every week, because she has to continue to follow up with the heart doctor, the kidney doctor and the doctor for her leg.
Bridget is a very private and proud person that would never ask anyone for help, but she is the first in line for anyone else. In the last few days, she has finally started talking a little about her concern over the amount of her medical bills. It is creating stress and anxiety that she doesn’t need while she tries to recover from all that she has been through. Any help for this amazing person would be greatly appreciated.
