Fiona Wallis hasn't added a story.
Haley is an amazing woman who I got to know through my IVF journey as we went through treatment and became pregnant at around the same time. Haley went on to have her beautiful boy, Blake, very early at 30 weeks which was a challenging time for Haley and her family. After 6 weeks in special care on NICU at Kings Mill Hospital, Nottinghamshire Blake was discharged and went home with his family. Blake went on to thrive and bring joy to his parents as any new baby would, especially such a longed for baby after the trials of infertility.
At 3 months Blake started to show signs of being unwell and Haley consulted health professionals in the hope of getting answers but was left without any diagnosis, she was led to believe that it was just a part of the difficulties that come with having a young baby. On the 26th October Blake was admitted to the childrens ward after Haley raised concerns but he was discharged the next day. Two days later Blake deteriorated rapidly and was rushed to hospital where tragically he passed away aged five and a half months.
Haley and her Husband Graham are still waiting for answers as to what happened to their precious boy, and as most of us can only begin to imagine are going through the kind of grief that no one should ever have to deal with.
Naturally Haley and Graham still want to be parents. Due to the nature of their fertility issues time isn't on their side so it is something they have had to consider sooner than others in their situation, as IVF is their only option. IVF is generally funded by the NHS for childless couples. However the fact that they have had a successful pregnancy through funded treatment, despite the loss of their son, means that the NHS won't fund their next treatment.
I know full well IVF comes with so much stress as it is, without the added pressures of financial stress. Haley and Graham will have to find around £7,500 to fund their treatment. It breaks my heart to imagine them dealing with all of that while attempting to deal with the loss of their beloved Blake.
So this is where my fundraising comes in. I am running Colchester half marathon on the16th March. I am training hard, often running while pushing my 7 month old twins in their buggy. If I can raise just some money towards funding their next treatment it will make all of this training worthwhile. I know I can't begin to take away their pain but If we can relieve some of the added pressures of financial stress ar this awful time then it might just make their lives a little easier.
The loss of Blake has touched me in ways I never imagined and not a day goes by that I dont think of what his parents must be dealing with. So I am training hard ready to run 13.1 miles in memory of Blake, a beautiful boy who was taken far too soon. Please give what you can.
