My name is Jeff Patterson. I am 61 years old.
For years, I worked as a federal mail carrier. I took pride in showing up, doing the job, and serving my community. When I suffered a serious spinal injury on the job, I did what I was supposed to do. I followed medical advice. A written accommodation was put in place so I could keep working safely.
My lawsuit alleges that those medical restrictions were not honored, and that the consequences ultimately led to my termination. The Postal Service denies these allegations, and the case is currently active in federal court.
But regardless of how the court ultimately rules, this is my reality:
I lost my income.
I lost my employer-sponsored health insurance.
Also in August 2025, I lost my wife, Toni .
While navigating workplace stress and litigation, I was also Toni’s primary caregiver during her critical illness. Losing her changed everything. Grief does not pause for legal battles. Bills do not stop because you are mourning.
I am representing myself — pro se — against government attorneys. I do not have a lawyer. I am trying to remain housed and manage ongoing medical needs while this case proceeds.
