Hello, everyone. My name is Carlos Costa. In 2017, due to medical malpractice, I suffered severe poisoning from a powerful antibiotic called Levofloxacin.

Since then, my life has been profoundly impacted by numerous health complications, including chronic muscle pain, cardiac arrhythmia, insomnia, anxiety, tendon ruptures, severe neuropathic pain, and digestive issues that prevent my body from absorbing essential nutrients like vitamin B12. Additionally, I struggle with endocrine imbalances, including cortisol and testosterone deficiencies, among other serious conditions.

Over the years, I have worked tirelessly to improve my health, but new challenges continue to arise. I struggled to complete my college education and have found it difficult to maintain stable employment due to my ongoing health struggles. Financial insecurity has been a constant barrier, preventing me from accessing proper medical care, a balanced diet, and essential treatments.

To make matters even more difficult, my parents also suffer from severe health conditions, and their prognosis continues to worsen. For years, I have prioritized their well-being, sending every extra penny I earn toward their medical needs.

As a result, I haven’t been able to visit them in nearly seven years. There have been times when I was on the brink of homelessness, sacrificing my own well-being to ensure they received the care they needed.

My Health Is Declining Rapidly

At 37 years old, I am experiencing a rapid decline in my health that far exceeds what is expected for my age. I have come to realize that if I am not well, I will be unable to support my parents or regain control of my own life.

I was born into a humble family, and everything we have achieved has been through sheer determination. My only wish is to provide my parents with a dignified life while also reclaiming my own health and independence.

That is why I am launching this fundraising campaign—to seek support for the medical treatments I desperately need.

Current Health Challenges I Am Facing:

1. New Daily Persistent Headache (NDPH) – A rare neurological condition causing 24/7 headaches with no relief, accompanied by constant dizziness. Effective treatments exist, but the only specialist near me charges a high fee. I also require multiple imaging tests such as MRIs and X-rays. At present, the only thing that eases the pain is keeping an ice pack on my head all day.

2. Lymphedema in Both Legs – This condition causes extreme swelling and pressure on my knee joints, making movement difficult. I need compression stockings, regular lymphatic drainage massages, and, eventually, lymph transfer surgery to prevent the formation of ulcers.

3. Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) – Levofloxacin weakened my ligaments and tendons, worsening a severe case of TMD. This causes intense headaches (on top of the NDPH), persistent tinnitus, difficulty chewing, and limited neck mobility. My treatment requires conservative therapy, occlusal splints, and surgery.

4. High Blood Pressure & Cardiac Arrhythmia – These conditions run in my family, and my risk is heightened due to obesity and a history of smoking. Given my mother’s near-fatal ischemic attack two years ago, I urgently need tests and preventive care to manage my condition so the same doesn't happen to me.

5. Adrenal Insufficiency & Hormonal Imbalance – Since the Levofloxacin poisoning, I have developed very serious hormonal problems, the main issue being adrenal insufficiency, which prevents my body from naturally producing cortisol. This condition can lead to an adrenal crisis, which may be fatal. I urgently need tests to rule out a possible tumor in my pituitary gland and determine which subtype of adrenal insufficiency I have, as well as the appropriate treatment regimen. Of all my conditions, this poses the greatest immediate risk to my life.

6. Additional Health Issues – I also suffer from a herniated disc (C5-C6), a trapped nerve causing numbness in my left arm, a deviated septum blocking 100% of my left nostril (requiring surgery), and generalized inflammation diagnosed as fibromyalgia.
