We are
Alex, Doug & Sheila the Agila (& now Tagha the Moroccan rescue pup)
Alex & Doug, a couple of NHS workers who are driving our ridiculously underpowered little car camper 20,000 miles from the UK to Asia, North Africa, Nordkapp and back for charity!
We are doing this for two fantastic charities:
Cool Earth - A charity working with indigenous rainforest communities to stop deforestation and help tackle climate change!
Blesma, The Limbless Veterans Charity - A charity working with veterans who have experienced loss of limb, use of limb, hearing, sight or speech, either during or after service.
We are already raising funds for these charities but to enable us to make this ridiculous journey in our little 1.2 litre, '03 Vauxhall Agila named

UPDATE (17/11/22):
Shortly after reaching Morocco we had to make an emergency stop & swerve off the road to avoid a puppy. After (not very much) deliberation, we decided to adopt her. This is a lengthy 5 month process for which we wish to avoid putting her into kennels (due to the high mortality rate) & so the rally has been PAWSed, Doug will remain in Morocco until March when he can drive our new pup Tagha home to the UK to start her new life with us (via the final points of the rally). In the mean time Doug will get up to date with YouTube episodes & have some extra Moroccan adventures to share with our followers. However, this all costs & although we know so many of you have already supported us in MASSIVE ways to complete the rally so far, we hope that some of you may want to help us out with the costs of getting Tagha home & keeping Doug fed whilst he wild camps in Morocco for the next 5 months! We have used pretty much all of our savings now as this was certainly an unaccounted for event & so any ongoing support is, as always HUGELY appreciated!
The Vets:
We have found out that Tagha requires feeding on Premium food for the first few months due to malnutrition when we found her at 5 weeks old (this has caused her some issues with her front paws that we hope will resolve with a top class diet).
She requires flea treatment, worming treatments, vaccinations inc. rabies & a blood test that will take 3 months to check for rabies antibodies before she can get her passport home.
So, we have popped up some extra kit list items that are more dog & Doug survival related than Rally related.

Tagha was a 5 week old stray when she ran in front of our car, this means she will require all of her vaccines before she can meet other dogs or apply for her passport to enter the EU, and this will take a total of 5 months to complete.

The Rabies vaccine is the biggie as Morocco is Rabies positive as a country and so following this she will also require a blood test which is a hefty cost in itself.

Wild camping is our fave, but you can't beat a few nights to recoup & grab a power shower on a campsite. With the pup this makes life even nicer as it gives her a safe space to move around without risk of stray doggies popping their head round the car at any moment. As well as making nighttimes easier as she currently needs letting out every couple of hours for the toilet. When we head to Agidir for jabs there aren't really any safe wild camp spots (police have been cracking down) and so we have to stay at campsites when there's a vet visit on the agenda.
If we had decided to leave Tagha in kennels the dog accommodation cost would've been far more than Doug staying in country & predominantly wild camping with a little bit of campsite joy here and there.

As if multiple vaccinations aren't painful enough for such a small pup, Tagha will also have to endure a blood test in order to check for antibodies for Rabies. Without this she simply cannot gain access to the EU/UK and come to her forever home (& Doug will have to stay in Morocco with her FOREVER).
This is carried out 1 month after her Rabies vaccine & then gets sent to France for analysis whilst we wait 3 months to hear the results.
This is by far the biggest individual vet cost for Tagha at a hefty £175.
