My name is Matthew Makowski and I am the producer for Galactic Rabbit Productions. I have used these platforms in the past to garner a small amount of funding for student projects and other passion projects, but this time it is different...
This is my first EVER international film, and it's in South Korea!
Here's a short story about myself, you may skip this if you wish:
About myself
My professional venture in life is film-making. It is my passion and my fruit. My passion fruit. Not only is the passion in creating, but also providing. I love working with people that are interested and sharing the love of the craft. Often people become bitter within their industry, diving too deep and forgetting why they loved it. It will forever bring me joy to work with people that are motivated and enthusiastic. I spent a whole year here looking, searching for people that I can share this with and I believe I have found them. This project will happen with crowdfunds or not, but funds will definitely create a significant burst in quality that anyone will notice and appreciate.
About the team:
Galactic Rabbit Productions is not a production company based around pushing my own agenda, but instead it's a collaboration comprised of enthusiasts, professionals, and students to experience the art of film-making together! Our crew comes from different parts of the world, including some native Koreans. I've decided to kick the door of opportunity open to others, but as you know, film-making can be expensive--and that is why we need your help.
The funds that you contribute will go straight to production costs and budget! We are a no-budget production, so everything is out of pocket. And since I am the producer, well, it's mostly on me. A small breakdown of why I am asking for the amount I am asking:
Breakdown of funds:
- Transportation- about $10 per person at a crew of 9 (not including actors. We all use the metro, we don't have cars (no need for them really!)
- Camera- I found someone who was generous enough to do this for more of love of the craft, but I still want to pay the guy, because he has a really nice camera and is saving me money from renting one at a rental house.
- Food- This is standard and etiquette on ANY production set. I am required to at least feed them some snacks, but I want to give them something substantial, not just cookies and water. Let's upgrade to sandwiches, or even pizza! (Sidenote: people will want to work with you again in the future if you provide them good food!)
- Special FX - This production will be utilizing handmade props/cosmetics and other pieces that will enhance the feel of our film. This is coming out of pocket to both myself and the special fx professional!
- Equipment- I tend to be very frugal on my productions while still aiming to reach a high quality product. That being said, we are only using a few lights, some stands, sandbags, and a shoulder mounted rig. That's the minimum, but with funds we can get more!
- Location- We are trying to find some of the hippest, hoppest, hecking awesome places in Seoul to shoot in. They may require a bit of universal language to really do the talking, you know, money. We don't know enough Korean to be charming or smooth enough to score a totally free location. We are still trying, but money will help us compensate the owners and gives us reign! I'd have to argue that this is the most important thing as you will be the ones to see this part on the screen.
- Soundtrack- Composed by a Berklee University Master student
- Fees- These platforms have fees, as well as transaction fees and conversion fees. It's a bit higher than what I would normally ask for with this reason alone.
- Festivals - Last but not least, festival submissions cost money. Average 50 bucks per submission.
The Film: Pre-production is already complete! We begin shooting the last weekend of March and hopefully finish the first weekend of April. It will go into post production where it will be edited, color graded, and some visual fx will be added to it.
The story:
About a teenage girl that tries to use her newly obtained fake ID to score some drinks with her friends. Her ID doesn't seem to work for her well and when she is about to call it quits, is enticed to a place that she is able to get into that isn't like other bars. The themes we convey will range from teenage angst, curiosity, judgment, hubris, and humility.

You will get everything mentioned above, and we will create your OWN PERSONAL ANIMATED CREDIT in the film, and we will be able to afford stickers or other merch, make physical copies to distribute, give bonus pay to some well deserved MVPs, plus this investment may lead to something bigger in the future for us!
