Wild Fires in Northern Uganda are threatening crops, villages and lives. Help train local fire fighters and spread preventative education.

In 2007 I spent 8 months in Uganda. One of the people I met and have maintained a relationship with is currently part of an organization called Friends of Hope.

Friends of Hope is desperatly trying to respond to a growing situation in Northern Uganda, and needs some help to effectively respond.

A common tactic for hunting in the area is to burn grasses to scare animals out. The desire for meat sends youth into the fields liting the tinder dry grasses on fire. This year has been particularly bad for wild fires quickly blazing out of control. The flames are devouring everything in their path, particularly troubling are the lost crops, threatening food sustainability and the lost lives.

A recent email from Kidega Patrick Paul in Uganda reads "am therefore urging you my dear friend to help through your friends this urgent need, the dry season is getting to it's peek with the wind blowing at high speed and this requires a qucik responds, the last three or so days we have recorded six deaths, two elderly women two chidren and one expectan mother, however we have also saved many houses and gradens and peole's property"

To help stop these flames Friends of Hope are training young local firefighters and putting them on watch patrols. They are also talking to local communities about preventative precautions and fire safety.

With your help they can increase their impact. Our donations will go towards training, fire fighting equipment, and radio public announcements.

All money will be collected and sent via Western Union to Kidega Patrick Paul in Kitgum.
