Jik-Reuben has been for the past 2/3 years creating hallmark imagery and has thrived to change the game through his Concert photography Black and white photography as well as his heartfelt, alluring and stunning Portraits.

My name is Jik-Reuben, I am a 24 year old Photographer that lives in Kingston, Jamaica and I am the Visual Ninja.

I developed a deep passion for photography in 2008 at my high school library, where I spent hours flipping through National Geographic Magazines. It was at this age I knew in the future I wanted to travel and capture different cultures and landscapes across the globe. However it wasn’t until 2010 when I joined UTECHs photography club and subsequently became the president that the interest blossomed into what it is today. From the modest days of using a point and shoot camera to covering my first live concert I have grown and continued to capture a host of different live shows and I have also branched out into portraits, landscapes, food, commercial, corporate events and wedding photography.

Concert Photography

Photography for me is about exploring emotions and unearthing different perspectives; this can be seen through my unique cinematic approach that yields alluring photographs that are sincere and soulful. I believe this distinct approach has built up a love for concert photography, black and white and portrait portraiture. In the 5 years since I started I have transformed into the Visual Ninja and have earned recognition for my unique perspectives. The passion for black and white and portraiture has led me to explore themes such as black empowerment, women empowerment, equality, cancer awareness and other illnesses. All of which is evident in my most recent works.

Travelling and exploring is important and comes natural to me, I love to travel or hike within my own little island of Jamaica. Jamaica's landscape is so beautiful. When I started exploring my own Island I would reminisce on Nat Geo images and be amazed that Jamaica had so many hidden gems similar if not triumphant to those i saw. I recall this last year May, I said to a group of friends I would love to travel and experience Europe. Be totally enriched in its culture, people and vast landscapes.

In July myself and 10 other creative will be participating in the United Purpose Tour (Up! Tour). The Up! Tour is a traveling showcase highlighting Jamaican culture and creativity. This Tour is the Brain child of the Nanook community which is a social enterprise geared towards nurturing creativity and communal industries. Joan Webley, Founder of Nanook had a vision of creating a space for creative people to be able to identify and work towards the maximum potential and output of their talent, skill or craft which I’ve seen unfold with various cultural and creative activities that have taken place there, such as Sankofa Session, Thursday Jam nights, Meditation on a Sunday, just to name a few.
