Hi! My name is Christy Townsend, I am the wife of Robert G Townsend. We are both veterans, he served in the US Army, did a tour to Iraq in 2009-2010, where we met. I did a tour to iraq in 2009-2010 and 2nd tour to afghanistan in 2013-2014. We have two amazing children our daughter Starlynn who will be 3 in July, and our son who will 2 May 30th.
We live off fairway drive and if your familiar with the area you know everybody thinks this road and the connecting roads are dragstrips around here. Everybody speeds up and down the roads, running stop signs, burning out, sliding sideways into driveways. My father in law has 3 different cancers, non hodgkin's lymphoma, renal cell carcinoma, and prostate cancer. The morning of may 24th he had went to the ER he wasnt feeling very well, he didnt get home untill around 4 am; in his return home our neighbor who is constantly revving his motor up on his car, burning out, acting like a crazy person driving had started doing this. Around noon my father and law went out and asked them to stop that he was sick and didnt feel well. In return they started cursing say they would do what they wanted when they wanted, saying we should come over there and make them stop, words were said and our neighbor (sorry not trying to put names out) told my husband who was standing beside my father in law that he had something for him, he went inside and came back out and tucked a gun into his waistband, so my husband went and got his gun, never showing it to them kept it by his side never threatening them or anything. He stayed inside our house the entire time; never stepping foot out our doorway. the neighbors continued to raise their voices, threatening our family, so we called the cops out. The cops came out, nothing was done to our neighbor, they were not searched, the police wouldnt even listen to us, i couldnt even get a word in, our other neighbors wanted to talk to them and they acted as if they didnt care to talk to them. My husband was arrested and charged with a felony aggervated assult. They took his firearm. I still dont understand why he was arrested, when nothing was done to our neighbors. His bond was set at $10,000. Like anybody we scraped the $1,000 together to bond him out, i did not want my husband sitting in jail for something he didnt do. but it is leaving us with a total of $5 to our name with two children and our father in law who is extremely sick. It took everything we had to get him out. It took our bill money, our grocery money, and our medical expenses money. Now not only do we have to come up with the money to cover our bills and food; now we have to hire an attorney, which we cant afford.
All because we asked them to please stop driving like a mad person who didnt care because we have children and what if they hurt them, what if they wrecked into our yard or anybody elses. What is it going to take to stop people driving like this, my husband, a veteran who has fought their freedom to have felony charges be put on him? To cost us every dime we have, to take away from our children??! We need your help!!
We are going to fight this! This is wrong, the way the police handled the situation was wrong! I'm going to talk to the DA, We are going to hire an attorney someway some how and this will be fought and something HAS to be done our neighborhood is NOT dragstrip for people to raise up and down! I DO not want my children hurt because of immaturity! Please help us in stopping this!
