At the end of January (over 2 months ago) Teresa and Rick York’s whippet Logo began to lose weight and energy. His former exuberance and joie-de-vivre were disappearing quickly. For over 2 months he visited different vets and specialists COUNTLESS of times and underwent a huge battery of tests. Nothing was ever found until last night at yet another emergency vet visit late at night. When Logo began to suffer from labored breathing Teresa wasted no time in getting him to the vet hospital where they took chest x-rays. The results floored the vets, who previously could find nothing wrong with Logo. He now had so much fluid in his chest they could not even see his heart. It was pleural effusion. They drained 1/4 liter of pus out of him and prepped him for surgery. They found a foreign body that either worked down through the esophagus or directly through the chest which caused this massive infection. The Yorks were given the following options: euthanasia, antibiotics, drain tubes, or open up and flush him out. They  went with the aggressive open up and flush. The vet called halfway through the surgery to say it wasn't good. The smell was bad and there was brown sludge and white cottage cheese-like stuff in him. The heart and the liver had fibrous coatings on them. What did they want to do?? The answer was immediate: Save his life of course!!

The vet spent 3 hours cleaning him up. Logo has come out of the surgery and is presently on heavy drugs. Now we wait and see and hope with all our hearts that this wonderful sweet boy pulls through.

In the meantime I am horrified not only at the horrible ordeal Logo and the Yorks have been going through, but also at the HUGE vet bills that have been accumulating over all this time ($9,500 so far) and will continue to mount until Logo can come home which won't be for a few days yet. So I am asking for your help. I know how kind and generous the dog community can be and every little bit will help the Yorks when all their time and energy is focused on saving their very much beloved Logo. Thank you!
