Mario Salazar learnt of his battle with prostate cancer three months ago. Unwilling to sacrifice his quality of life by having radiation or even getting his prostate removed, he found an alternative treatment in Germany that has a 95% chance of getting rid of his cancer with no ill side effects. The cost of the treatment is approx. $8000, and the plane tickets for Mario and his wife Elvira will cost $3000. This is a life and death situation, as his cancer has been diagnosed at Stage 3A. This means that from the biopsy report taken, 11 out of 12 samples tested positive for cancer with a Gleason Score of 8 out of 10. In layman's terms this means that the cancer is very aggressive and has not yet spread to Mario's bones or other parts of his body.
The clinic in Germany told him that he could be scheduled in for the end of July, which does not leave us a large amount of time to gather up the money to get him there and get rid of this disease.

If you ask anyone that knows Mario, they'll say he will always go out of his way to help a friend in need and always listens to those who need it. His sense of humor is right on, as he always finds the bright side of any situation, and manages to make everyone laugh. He values integrity, honor and loyalty and upholds these to the highest extent.

A bit of background: Mario immigrated to Canada alongside his parents at the age of 2. After settling in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, they started a dairy farm, which is where he grew up alongside his two younger brothers and two younger sisters.
When Mario was 14, tragedy struck when one of his younger brothers, Victor, died at the age of 5 from SIDS. In grade seven at the time, he dropped out of school to help his parents on the farm.
At the age of 18, Mario alongside his brother Joe, enlisted in the Canadian Army. As an infantryman he was sent to Bosnia in 1992 where he met Elvira. Through the horrible atrocities of war, their relationship formed. They fell in love even though she could not speak a word of English.
After Mario finished his tour, he worked relentlessly to get Elvira a plane ticket and a way to get her out of her war torn country.

Mario has four daughters, Jasmina (17), Anisa (13), Leila (12) and Sabrina (10). He has worked very hard to raise them with better opportunities than he or Elvira had.

Message from Jasmina;
"My father is the best person I know and I will not let this disease win. I cannot imagine him not being here to see his youngest daughter, Sabrina, grow up and graduate from high school. I cannot imagine getting married or living my adult life without my father. I cannot imagine him not seeing his grandchildren, and cannot imagine my mother growing old without my father as it was meant to be from the day they met."

Mario has been given two years if no treatment is done. Seven years if his prostate is removed and an unknown amount if he is to undergo radiation, as another batch of cancer could form in another part of his body.

Mario is a fighter and he will not give up and Elvira, being of the same spirit, has spent countless hours on many home remedies and ways to stop the spread of this cancer. She has researched for hours to find a way to cure Mario without his quality of life decreasing. This method is the best way, and needs to be done quickly.
