As this is the 4th year since Chrissy has gone to Creator, this will be the 5th and final celebration that I host for my dear friend.
Please contribute to the Camp Namegans Final Cookout and Celebration for our loved ones in Honor of Chrissy Brett Fund to help pay for travel and gifting protocols for her family who would like to attend the event on Saturday September 26th 2025, 1:00- 4 pm, at Camp Namegans ( Regina Park) All remaining funds will go directly to her family.
Chrissy Brett, born Nuxalk nation, mother, grandmother, warrior and
loving Matriarch of the unhoused, a caring, compassionate, courageous
and tireless advocate for the most poor and marginalized members of
our community, passed away on July 17th, 2022. She gave her life for
social justice, spearheading and sustaining pop-up and long-term
encampments at Super Intent City, Camp Namegans, Strathcona,
Oppenheimer, and Crab Park, in so-called Victoria and Vancouver, that
resisted the routine displacement of the unhoused by law enforcement
and provided a safe sense of home and a political voice to people who
had neither.
She cared for everyone as if they were her own family. She was loving, tough, creative and effective. She worked cooperatively with authorities while organizing direct action to break the silence of the status quo. She achieved more results in getting affordable and supportive housing units to open than any housing bureaucrat in the province. She left a lasting legacy that will always be remembered.
We will honor Chrissy's life work and huge contribution to community. Please help us to bring family to the event and to support her boys.
