My name is Adriana, and I am a mother of two little girls who mean everything to me. I am writing this through exhaustion, determination, and hope. For several years, my daughters and I have been holding onto stability while living in extremely unsafe and unhealthy housing conditions. Our home has been filled with pests, repeated water shut-offs, and environmental hazards that have made my children sick and worsened my own chronic medical conditions.
My oldest daughter has Asthma and a deep fear of bugs because she has never lived in a home free from infestations. My youngest has severe eczema, asthma, and other respiratory issues. She has had multiple rounds of pneumonia and has been hospitalized more than once. There were times I had to leave the hospital against medical advice because I didn’t have childcare, or because I had to choose between caring for myself and caring for my babies.
This past year has brought more heartbreak. My daughters’ father passed away in May 2025. I was still recovering emotionally and financially after being out of work for a full year due to chronic health issues. Since returning to work in March 2025, I have been doing everything in my power to hold our lives together. It is now December 2025, and I am still navigating grief, medical challenges, and the weight of raising two children alone in unsafe housing.
I desperately wanted to move years ago, but as a family in affordable housing, I could not afford market-rate rent in San Francisco. We were stuck, even as conditions worsened.
Despite everything, something incredible happened. We were selected for an opportunity to purchase a safe and stable affordable home through Habitat for Humanity. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to finally give my daughters a healthy environment where they can grow, breathe easily, and feel safe. A place where I can focus on healing instead of constantly worrying about the next emergency.
But after years of financial strain, medical leave, hospitalizations, and now the loss of my daughters’ father, I am struggling to cover the final closing costs, moving expenses, and essential needs to make this transition safe for my children.
I have been fighting through a complicated disability-rights process because a city housing program miscalculated my income during my medical leave, nearly costing us this home. After years of living in unsafe conditions and pushing through every barrier imaginable, this home represents safety, dignity, and a new beginning for my daughters.
I am so close, but I cannot do this last part alone.
Every donation helps us take one step closer to safety, healing, and stability.
Thank you for reading our story, for supporting us, and for giving us hope.
With gratitude,
Adriana and my two little girls 💛

HOW FUNDS WILL BE USED:
Every dollar given will go directly toward helping my daughters and me finally move into a safe, stable home after years of unsafe housing conditions, severe financial hardship, and ongoing disability-related challenges. These are the estimated costs I am facing over the next several weeks as I prepare for closing and moving:
1. Closing Costs — $5,152
Prepaid Escrow: $3,952
Prepaid Homeowners Insurance: $1,200
Taxes and Government Fees: TBD, but expected to add additional required costs at closing.
These fees must be paid in order for me to officially close on the home and secure long-term stability for my daughters.
2. Moving Expenses — $3,000 to $4,000
Includes the cost of:
Professional movers (I cannot safely lift furniture due to chronic health limitations)
Truck fees
Utility deposits
Basic supplies and equipment for moving
Essential replacement items (some furniture cannot be safely moved from my current unit)
3. Emergency and Safety Needs for My Children — $2,000 to $3,000
My oldest daughter has eczema and a long-standing fear of bugs from living in unhealthy housing.
My youngest has severe eczema, asthma, and respiratory issues and has been hospitalized multiple times, including for pneumonia.
Funds will help with:
Air purifiers
Hypoallergenic bedding
Safe cleaning supplies
Medication refills
Nebulizer and respiratory equipment not fully covered by insurance
4. Medical Bills and Ongoing Care — $3,000 to $4,000
Some bills remain outstanding from my hospital visits this year, and I continue to need regular treatment and follow-up care. I am also responsible for my daughters’ medical expenses, including emergency visits and specialist appointments.
5. Basic Household Essentials — $2,500 to $3,500
After years in substandard housing, many items are worn down, damaged by pests, or unsafe to bring into the new home.
Funds will support:
New bedding for the girls
A safe dresser and storage for clothing
Basic kitchen items
Baby-proofing supplies
Small appliances
Replacement of items affected by environmental hazards in our
current unit
6. Transition Cushion — $5,000
This is the most important safety net for a single mother balancing:
Caring for two young children
Chronic medical needs
Returning to work while managing grief
The financial challenges of moving
The immediate months after closing on a new home
This cushion will help us remain stable during the transition and avoid falling into crisis again.
TOTAL GOAL: $25,000
This amount reflects the minimum needed to complete closing, move safely, support medical needs, and finally give my daughters the stable, healthy home they deserve.
