Two years ago I met my husband Omar and a short time later we were married. In April 2014 I moved to Trinidad & Tobago. My husband already took care of two Pothounds (it’s what stray dogs are called here), gave them food, and treated them medically as much as possible. Since my arrival here in the Caribbean much has happened. I cared for some dogs and cats that no longer live with us, and some unfortunately…are no longer among us today.
From the very beginning what struck me is that almost everyone in Trinidad seems to have at least one dog. Most of them are chained or caged in a yard. Many of these dogs have no fresh water nearby, lay next to their feces, and due to muscle atrophy can hardly move. It is very rare to see someone walking a dog. There are the many stray dogs that struggle to survive daily in this hostile world.
Every day I read reports on the Internet by like-minded Trinidadians who ask to support injured or starving dogs, females with their babies on the road, and to foster "disposed" puppies and kittens. This situation needs improving.
My mission is to feed animals in need, provide them shelter, and ensure that they do not multiply uncontrollably. I would create a dog park where owners can have their beloved four-legged friends run and play with other dogs. This does not exist here resulting in people not walking their dogs. Also, I would use major highway billboards to advertise issues like dogs not belonging in cages or chained 24/7.
I cannot finance this myself but with small donations a lot can change. I already own a piece of land where I can build the emergency rescue shelter and playground. I call this project, "Animal Rescue Palace Trinidad & Tobago".
Afterall, It may just be a drop in the ocean...but it will care for many needy strays and save LIVES!
Please help and be a part of an important life change for the cats and dogs of Trinidad & Tobago!
THANK YOU!
