My name is Keith Dunn and I was attending a friend's wedding in the French Apline region of Savoy when we heard the news of the Earthquake that hit Nepal.

My friends and I were shocked and saddened by the news. As many of them are professional ski and mountain sports coaches they have strong links with the people of the Himalayan region.

These links were forged through personal friendship with Dachhiri Dawa Sherpa, the former Buddhist monk and now famous Nepalese Winter Olympic competitor who married and settled in nearby Switzerland, and through the "Associasion Parrains et Marraines au Nepal" (Association of Godfathers and Godmothers for Nepal), which was set up some years ago by Dachhiri Dawa Sherpa to fund the building of schools, medical centres, homes for the elderly and many other humanitarian works in the villages of Nepal.

Much of the previous building work provided by the association has been destroyed by the earthquake and sadly is needed even more desparately now than before.
