Denise Grantham hasn't added a story.
My name is Denise and my husband is Tom. We really want to see our grandchildren. Seven of our grandchildren live in the Yukon and 2 live in Saskatchewan. We have a very long story that spans the last 17 years.
The condensed version is we moved from our home in the Yukon and left all our children (including our youngest daughter who was in her last year of high school) and grandchildren. We had a beautiful but very rustic home on a lake. I was severely injured twice in the home--broken back and broken leg. Our home was infested with bats and we had to be inoculated for rabies. We did a major renovation on our home to bat proof it and then it caught fire. Our daughter (who moved from the Yukon after high school to go to University) moved to Saskatchewan taking with her the only grandchild that we had close to us. We were heartbroken and Tom is still suffering separation anxiety. I enrolled in a distance education course and after 2 years, at yhe age of 55, I was retrained and still unemployable. We were then forced with the reality that we could no longer afford to stay in our little rustic home by the lake.
We sold the house and downsized. Our new home is 2 hours from my husband's work. So Tom retired and age 61. I found employment an hour from our new home. It is only six hours a day, but when you include driving, it works out to eight. Still I only get paid for 6 hrs and I have a very large fuel cost. Tom can't find casual work, given his age and the small community. The nearest town is 45 Kms away, so even if he was able to get employment, he would probably paying out whatever he makes in fuel. It really is a vicious circle.
Well that is a basic background of our situation. We really would like to travel to the Yukon and see our oldest grandson graduate and visit with our other Yukon gradchildren. We miss them desperately! We would also like to fly our other grandson from Saskatchewan for the summer. There isn't anyway that we can go to Dustin's (grandson) graduation or get Quin (grandson) here for the summer without help. Tom is suffering from depression and I really think this would help. I have exhausted our options. I am hoping for help. Please help us see our grandchildren.
