Our 10 year old Papillon girl Zoe went into emergency surgery yesterday. Then things just got a whole lot worse. The vets discovered a golf ball sized tumor. They removed it and as much surrounding tissue as they could but it has already spread. We have her home. She survived the major surgury and is resting comfortably. I have been feeding her by letting her lick soft food off my fingers. She does not appear to be in pain and is on pain medication.
That having been said, we don't know exactly what's is store. Will she improve and have a quality of life for a short time before decline or is this it? I litteraly feel like by stomach is being torn from my body.
I raised Zoe from a tiny little baby and she has been my absolute best friend since. We plan our weekends around "Zoe Day" and used to do fun things like go to the beach, walk the island, go to our favorite restaurants or just run errands (she likes to ride in the cart). Everywhere we go she makes people smile. She is a feel good dog. I just cannot imagine life without her.
Obviously the medical expenses from both Saturday (vet visit and tests) and Sunday (additional test and emergency surgery) are great and there will be more depending on how her decline manifests itself.
