My name is Ken and I have been in a wheelchair for 13 years now. I
was injured on an ATV when I was 14. I lost control and hit a tree
head on. The tree was fine but I was not. Breaking 3 of my vertebrae
and damaging my spinal cord on impact, leaving me a T5 para with no
feeling from the chest down. Two weeks after I left the Hospital I was
going to High School and moving forward with my life now in a
wheelchair.
My biggest passion has always been hiking in the outdoors and
experiencing the wonders of nature first hand. Being in a chair can be
hard at times but not being able to get to places outside or hit
the trails and just feel alive is the hardest part for me. To walk and
run is a great gift that’s taken for granted by so many. I often think
if I had my legs today where would they take me. We live in a Free
Country but do we live free. We create walls with our homes and cars
that keep us from nature mentally and physically. So if your reading
this and your able to, find a trail in the forest near you stop and
breathe in real freedom. I have never asked for help like this before
so it's strange for me. Recently I came across a web site for an all
terrain wheelchair called a Mountain Trike and I was amazed at how
much thought went into making this be so functional. It can take you
in the snow, mud, gravel, over rocks, roots, even the beach. All that
and still fold up like rigid wheelchairs do.
You could go on a bike ride and shop for groceries without stopping to
change chairs. The Mountain Trike is the perfect combo of mountain
bike and wheelchair. It's made with high end parts so it has a high
end price to go with it, but what an amazing improvement it could make
in the lives of people in wheelchairs. I know for me it would open up
a world I thought was not reachable any more. The price tag is beyond
what I can do alone but with help I can make it happen. Thank you for
