Shane is a 23 year-old who’s life, in general, has been much more challenging than most of us have endured. At the young age of 2, Shane’s mom passed away from health complications, and, at age 12 her father passed also. Her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and older siblings took over raising her.
Flash forward to current day where Shane has persevered to the point of reaching her final year of college and is close to earning a B.S. college degree in Elementary Education- in the Philippines. Each semester, she has enrolled in a full workload of credit-hours while also holding a job to pay for school, housing, and all of her life’s expenses with barely any help. Remarkably, Shane has still managed to consistently achieve a 4.0 grade point average! She has earned university honors and will likely graduate at the top of her class.
However, most recently Shane encountered a series of unfortunate, consecutive setbacks (all outside of her control). She is struggling to keep her financial head above water and reach graduation day. Below is a timeline of what happened…
FIRST HIT: Shane had originally been awarded a small government-funded scholarship which WOULD HAVE aided her enough to afford university and life costs up to graduating, but the funds were corrupted by greedy bureaucrats AND THE SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS WERE NEVER RECOVERED. SHANE NEVER RECEIVED A DOLLAR OF IT. If she wasn’t busy and worn out enough, Shane organized rallies with her fellow students and they protested to try and recover the scholarship funds, but the government totally disregarded them.
SECOND HIT: Shane was living with her aunt, and contributing to household management, plus taking care of her niece, when her aunt suddenly made a decision to change her job, which offered a better opportunity for herself, to a new location out of town. The aunt’s apartment was no longer available for Shane, and she had to hurry to make new living arrangements- all while maintaining her teaching studies. Shane, her brother, and her brother’s girlfriend rented a small, studio apartment and agreed to split the cost together.
THIRD HIT: Only a couple of months after getting moved and settled in the new apartment, the owners of the company where Shane’s brother worked sold the company with no advanced notice to the employees. The new, terrible owners quickly ruined the company forcing employees, including Shane’s brother, to deal with harsh conditions and take less pay or leave! He hung in there a while but ultimately left to focus on finding a better job, and funds to pay the rent were stressed.
FOURTH HIT: After barely making ends meet together for the next few months, the third roommate (brother’s girlfriend) decided to break the agreement and accepted a new job out of town and stopped her rent contribution.
FIFTH HIT: Shane was working as a nanny to earn her income, when the house and neighborhood where she worked suffered a massive fire. Her employer abandoned their residence there and moved back to their family’s home in a different, distant region. Shane suddenly had zero income and had no choice but to make time to job-hunt, land one, and earn an income again. The best she could find, on such short notice and with little free time and energy, does not pay as much as the previous job.
These hardship events sound like the script of a sad movie, but they are very real to Shane, and we’re reaching out to this audience for a little help to create a happy ending for her.
Shane is the most sweet, honest, selfless, fun, caring, and happy type, and what she has endured is a heart-breaking streak of bad luck that should not happen to such a great person. Although this amazing example of an incredibly hard-working young woman, and stellar student, has proven to conquer repeated misfortune, and simply will not quit, she could really use a little relief. In my opinion SHE CERTAINLY DESERVES IT!
In closing, thank you for having read this appeal. Shane is a prime example of the type of teacher I would want guiding and influencing my children. What do you think? You can help her get to the finish line! This funding campaign is seeking a modest sum from you, toward her noble cause, and any amount you may choose to contribute to Shane, will be greatly appreciated and very well invested 😊
