Every 5 years I donate my hair to kids with cancer and raise funds for the community here in Jersey City and abroad. If we reach the goal, I will SHAVE OFF ALL of my hair!!!
Last time was in 2020, where we donated over $5,000 to grassroots organizations and causes here in Jersey City. This year I am joined by Pam and Chay from Artist & the Antidote to chop our hair to raise funds for:
1. Grassroots Organizations here in JC and in NJ (Necessary community work to protect our neighbors and sustain our communities.)
- Examples: Spirit of Liberation Jersey City (SOL JC,) Anakbayan, Build More Unity (BMU), Food Not Bombs, Stelton Distro, MUYU and more!
ICE Watch Trainings and immigrant support work, community organizing, mutual aid food distribution, independent bookstore and community space, cultural incubator for low-income artists, and more!
2. Causes Internationally (Known and trusted groups on the ground, in direct aid)
- Examples: Gaza and the West Bank of Palestine, Sudan, Congo, and the Philippines.
3. Mutual Aid (support organizers and others to sustain the work and give relief to community members in need.)
- Examples: Rent assistance, emergency funds, LHS snack program to combat SNAP benefits cuts, support community fridges.
