Alfi Dallaway hasn't added a story.
The Osprey resoration is close to complete, but we still need your help
Since February this year, Pete Dallaway's family and friends have been fundraising to complete the restoration of Pete's classic timber 28' sloop Osprey, dreaming of seeing her relaunched and retaining her place in Jervis Bay's yachting history.
With the money raised so far, Alfi and co. have been working diligently on the restoration of Osprey, which was a source of much joy for Pete during the final months of his illness. On the 18th of May Pete passed away peacefully knowing that Osprey is in safe hands and that she would soon be back in the bay.
But we aren't there yet, and we still need your help.
A major rebuild of the 50 year old yacht was undertaken two years ago, aimed at restoring the yacht to her former glory after being continuously campaigned in local races for a period of over 40 years. The current refurbishment is approximately 80% complete with all the major hull work completed under the guidance of the wooden boat specialists at Noakes’s shipyard in Sydney due to lack of suitable skills and facilities locally.
New rigging has already been acquired and the yacht has been returned to Jarkan's shipyard in Wollamia, Jervis Bay to complete the interior restoration and final fit out.
With the passing of Pete’s wife Monica two years ago and Pete's fight against cancer, it has been a difficult time for Pete's family and friends. Pete dearly wanted to see Osprey back in the water again and retain her place as working piece of Jervis Bay’s yachting history. While Pete is no longer with us, his son Alfi is determined to complete the restoration.
Pete’s family and friends are asking all those who knew and loved him to contribute towards completing the final fit out of Osprey, with the ultimate goal of continuing the family tradition of introducing others to the joy and challenges of the sport by undertaking to make the yacht available for sail training and youth development programs on completion of the restoration.

About Osprey
Design Plans
History
Randel designed cruiser racer was originally built in Sydney in the early 1960’s and acquired in 1969 by Pete’s father Jim in partnership with local Doctor Roland Kingston. The first yacht to be moored in Callala Bay, Osprey became the corner stone on which the Jervis Bay cruising yacht cub was founded in 1970 under Jimmy’s stewardship.
Peter helped his father financially to obtain full ownership of the yacht when the partnership dissolved amicably a few years later and went on to follow in his fathers footsteps and continued to campaign Osprey in local races and play a major roll in the leadership of the yacht club on his return to Australia with his young family in 1993.
