Chris Brooks hasn't added a story.
It was 3-29-12 the day that will forever be the day a piece of me died to never return. I had just got home from working thirds in Chattanooga. Heather had got up to get Kayde from her mom after she dropped Bug off. Everything was normal and no signs of what was to come in just a few short hours. By the time I got home Kayde was fast asleep in her bed along with the res...t of the house. Heather had got up when Mikah and Maliegha woke her. I had finally fell asleep after I had looked in on the kids before going to bed. Heather went to make the kids breakfast so she went to wake Kayde up like she had done every morning for months. Only this morning she found Kayde unresponsive and not breathing. She grabbed Kayde up and rushed into our bedroom holding Kayde she was yelling at me that Bug wasn't breathing. Only being asleep for an hour and a half or so I thought I was in a nightmare. Come to find out I was in every parents worst nightmare but I was wide awake. I have had training in CPR techniques for adults and toddlers. My father instincts kicked in immediately. I grabbed Kayde from Heather and ran into the living room to begin CPR while she called 911! I don't remember everything from that fateful day but the next thing is burned into my memory forever! While performing CPR I was begging Kayde to breath and look at me. I was also begging God not to take her! I hadn't had enough time with her. I wasn't ready to let her go nor would I have ever been! It was only minutes when the medics arrived! I will tell you this, the helpless feeling you get is overwhelming to say the least! Once we arrived at the hospital it was the longest waiting game ever! I continued to pray and ask God to give me more time with Bug. I even said he could take me in her place cause it didn't seem fair to take such a young and beautiful little girl from this world. The next memory is burned into my brain as well. After several questions about diabetes and family history of it the nurse finally told me Kayde's blood glucose was 487 at the time she arrived at the hospital. When the doctor came into the room that we were in I seen tears in his eyes and I just lost it! I don't really remember anything after that moment. Since that day my grandma and my mom both have passed away as well! I have learned a lot about myself as a person and as a friend since that fateful morning. The best lesson I learned was to laugh thru the pain and enjoy the memories that will never fade! It took me a very long time to start living again and learn that lesson. This is very hard for me to write cause all the memories come rushing back. So hug your children every chance you get and let them know how much you love them! I never missed my chance to let Bug know how much daddy loved her. She was the biggest daddy's girl you could imagine! Through this web page you will feel the love I had for my daughter and see what undying love truly is... All I want to come from this is for Kayde's story to save lives so no other parent would ever have to go through this kind of pain. Thanks for helping me spread the word and Kayde's story. Life is all about LOVE never forget that...
